"A fantastic property in an excellent and convenient location close to all the amenities and beach in Port Douglas. We stayed for 14 nights over christmas with our 2 year old son and truly had a wonderful time. This house has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting self contained accommodation in Port Douglas." Use of the pool was a much needed bonus and Tina was a wonderful host. Many thanks and we hope we get back there soon.

Terrific Stay. Noisy, wonderful chattering from many birds. Very Quirky, but a lovely change from more 'sterile' holiday accommodation. Thankyou!

"What a wonderful treat is has been staying at the Artist Cottage! From the moment we walked in, this place has felt like home. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay especially spending numerous lazy afternoons on the sunny balcony. We truly love the feel of this place including Tina's quirky artwork to the random collection of op shop finds and ofcourse, the great attention to detail. Thankyou for making our stay a most memorable one and we hope to visit again soon".

Wow, what a lovely place to unwind. Thankyou for sharing your special home with us. It had all the creature comforts of home with lots of interesting artwork to look at. Nick and I loved the peacefulness of the Artist Cottage and Location? Salsa was our favorite restaurant, Bucci had a cosy intimate feel and the Tin Shack by the water was casual and relaxed. So many great place to eat and just relax. We will definitely tell all our friends about this special place you have created in Port Douglas. Thanks so much for a very interesting stay!

We have loved our stay here. A perfect hideaway - quiet but close enough to walk everywhere. Loved the artwork and the feel of the cottage and appreciate the pool for cooling off in. Had an excellent day diving with Brice from Parrotfish Dive on the Haba - Highly recommended. And love Salsa so much we ate there three times. Thanks for making such a special place to enjoy Port Douglas from.

BEST. APARTMENT. EVER!
I know you're probably thinking that's quite a call, but I say it with conviction. If your idea of a lovely getaway is an anonymous beige box, then this isn't the place for you. But if you like a place with a bit of spunk, loads of character and somewhere you can truly relax and feel at home, then this is it.
Tina and Matt have put a lot of love into this place, and it shows. From their fab op shop finds to the louvered windows to the artwork hanging on the wall (some of them Tina's own), it really is a lovely retreat to return to each day. Or, as in our case where it rained most of the time, spend the day snuggled up on the couch watching DVDs with a pot of tea...perfection!
It's an easy walk to the beach and into town for dinner, but there is also a fully stocked kitchen which we made the most of. But if you do go out for tea, try Salsa! We went back twice, it was delish. And the Combined Clubs really is the best spot in town for watching the sunset and the boats coming in with a cold beer and a cheap feed.
So all in all, 2 very big thumbs up for artists cottage! We are telling one and all about it. And we will be back!

"I've just found out that Grazia mag has listed The Artist's Cottage in Port Douglas as one of the best places to stay in Queensland. Queensland's pretty large, you know - so you'd think that was a big call. But The Bloke and I actually make a visit up there recently. The place is magical - we fell in love with it. And yes - it's definitely the best. Ever. One hundred percent. The cottage is owned by Tina Gonsalves (she's the artist) and Matthew Wild (he's the chef) and together they've made a very special treehouse of loveliness. Every detail, from the mismatched lounge chairs to the louvered shutters to the randomly gourmet kitchen supplies, was perfect. "

This is a gorgeous little place with loads of personality. We loved the artwork and its bohemian vibe. It was also very convenient - it is only a short walk from beach and has a kitchen and balcony for when you choose to eat in. Great size and great value. I highly recommend it to anyone who is travelling to Port Douglas and wants something a little different.

What a wonderful little tropical hideaway. If you want a an eclectic, charming, thoughtful and romantic antithesis to the anonymous beige hotels peppering Pt D then this is the place for you.
There's something very special about being woken by the breeze through palms and (very) raucous birdsong ... we left we a soft spot for the whole town, all because of this place. Thanks guys.

The stay was great. The cottage was absolutely everything that we had hoped for and provided a comfortable place to rest after a big day on the reef and a great spot to be to avoid all the rain we experienced. The birds in the morning did their best to make sure we didn't sleep the days away and a white lipped tree frog kept us company on the porch at night. It was, all around, a fantastic week and we will definitely be in touch again if our schedules allow for another trip to Port Douglas in the coming years.
