Hawks Nest is a pretty beachside town on the beach side of the 'Singing Bridge' linking it with twin town, Tea Gardens.
Escape from the pressures of work in the city or life generally and drink in the fresh air and quiet pace of this unique community, surrounded on all sides by water....the rolling waves of the Pacific Ocean to the east, the quieter waters and beaches of Port Stephens to the south and the beautiful Myall Lakes to the west. Hawks Nest sits at the southern tip of a 42km expanse of pristine, stunning beaches with sparkling blue water and white, powdery sands...stretching north along the coastal boundary of the Mungo Brush National Park.
Dolphins can frequently be seen surfing the waves at Bennetts or Jimmmy's Beach or cruising up the river to play in the tidal eddies of the 'Singing Bridge'.
There are no fast food chains and no traffic. You can be anonymous, but after two visits to the local newspaper shop, you'll be on a first name basis! Leave the car in the garage and give your legs a turn with plenty of flat, easy walks to the river, beaches, shops, clubs, churches, national park, cafes and restaurants of Hawks Nest and over the bridge to the riverside pub and eateries of Tea Gardens.
There's as much to do here and as little as you please....golf, bush walks, fishing, fishing, fishing for active holiday makers or plenty of quiet spaces to read a good book if you plan to put your feet up. Make sure you take in a game of 'Bingo' for a great family night out.
And don't forget to look up in the evenings - you won't believe the stunning night skies and star show with the Southern Cross and Milky Way seemingly within easy reach on a clear night.
Getting there is an easy 2 hour drive on the F1 freeway north from Sydney or an hour from Newcastle to the Hawks Nest/Tea Gardens turn off just north of Karuah. Hawks Nest is on the coast just 11 kms from the freeway - watch for koalas, kangaroos and cows on your way in....and you can even buy local honey, eggs and market produce or visit an art gallery.
