Cowra is located 4.5 hours west of Sydney and 2.5 hours north of Canberra. While staying at Aalana Motor Inn you can explore the Central Tablelands of New South Wales. Cowra has a fascinating history from the days of steam trains to the largest Prisoner Of War breakout in modern military history. During World War II there was a large prisoner of war camp in Cowra and in 1944 the Japanese prisoners attempted a massive breakout.

The POW Hologram Theatre tells the story and there are cemeteries, magnificent Japanese Garden and a Cultural Centre to commemorate that era. Annual events include the Festival of Understanding and the Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival. Other local events include the Cowra Wine and Food Festival with the Cowra Cork and Fork event.

Cowra is a good place for hot air ballooning with nearby Canowindra described as \'The Balloon Capital of Australia\'. Wyangala Waters State Park is popular for its Water Slides.
