Tara is a new take on the Sydney bed & breakfast scene which offers guests a gracious and stylish place to stay in the Newtown area of Sydney, 15 minutes from the CBD. It is an owner operated accommodation with the owners living there to ensure everyone enjoys a great stay in Sydney and each bedroom is let individually.
We are very close to Sydney and UTS Universities with a great choice of restaurants literally around the corner, as is Sydneys iconic Enmore theatre, home of the best local and international acts to come to Sydney even the Rolling Stones have played here. Rooms are seriously generous in size, each with its own character. Think faded glory outside as per Venice and Firenze with clean creative spaces therein, imagine tall ceilings with French doors opening onto large verandahs More Corbusier than Chippendale, not too twee, not too quiet, more boho than 5 star, more artists digs than the Hilton! It has to be said that we offer an urban experience as per Soho, New York, rather than a sojourn in an English rural setting. This is comfortable, informal accommodation and our guests are many and varied including businesspeople, academics, travellers of all ages from home and abroad, architects, writers, musicians, actors and other creative souls with an eye to the good life. We extend a warm welcome to travellers one and all and hope that this will be your home away from home. Please see our listing on TripAdvisor for reviews - we're currently rated #1 bed & breakfast in Sydney.
TARA was built as a Doctors home and surgery in the 1880s and has seen a lot in its very full life Only recently purchased, we are in the process of bringing the old girl back up to scratch. She has a way to go which is why we have decided to open the doors to PGs! Very much a work in progress, our early guests will be able to chart her progress as we add bathrooms to all three of the bedrooms eventually enabling us to offer en suite facilities for each room. In the immediate future we are asking our guests to share the existing bathrooms. Prices during our makeover phase are much less than they will be when the duckling has transformed into the beautiful swan.
Owners live in and are available to assist at all times with any queries. There are four bedrooms available, three upstairs and one suite downstairs. All four bedrooms are let individually. Prices are calculated for a couple in each room each night with reduction of $20 for single rate and additional $30 for each extra guest in room. Rates include full breakfast, complimentary Wi-Fi, TV/DVD in rooms, toiletries, robes and airport pick up and drop off service can be arranged for up to 4 guests. There is normally a minimum letting of 2 nights but we can make an exception depending on availability, if one night stay is required - an additional charge of $50.00 applies to cover linen and other expenses.
The front upstairs room is 24 square metres, has a queen four poster bed and a sofa that can be made into a double bed. This room looks out across the verandah to the leafy front garden. The back upstairs room at 25 square metres, is very light and airy and has sweeping distance views across the south eastern suburbs to the ridge line of the Royal National Park. It has a modern queen bed and is large enough to include a small sitting room. These two rooms share a beautiful bathroom.
The downstairs suite has two rooms, each 20 square metres with the bedroom having a queen upholstered bed. This room is linked by high double folding doors to the private sitting room which has a sofa bed that opens to a comfortable double bed with an inner spring mattress. Both rooms have marble fireplaces and the bedroom has double French doors opening onto the front verandah and garden. This letting has its own bathroom across the hall and is for sole use of guests in this letting.
Tara is ideally located on Edgeware Road near the intersection of Enmore Road which is the beginning of a wonderful strip of cafes, restaurants, speciality shops, great secondhand shops and of course the Enmore Theatre. Enmore is next door to Newtown and it is worth noting that there are more book stores in this part of town than in any other. Just to get an idea of the diverse range of restaurants between here and King Street there are Indian, Portugese, Turkish, Lebanese, Greek, Italian, Peruvian, Swedish and the ever present Thai.
The bus stop is a one minute walk away with a very frequent service taking you into the city and as mentioned King Street is a pleasant stroll from here with its famous cafe culture and so much more, it is the ongest continuous shopping precinct in Sydney. It is possible to catch the one bus to take you all the way to Circular Quay and the Opera House, passing Sydney Uni, the ABC Headquarters, Central Railway Station, Chinatown, the Entertainment District on either side of George Street and on through the CBD.
