Swan/Chittering Valley

We are proud of the diverse Shires with the lovely Chittering and Swan Valley and all our other beautiful scenery with it's magnificent wildflowers and friendly people.

Swan Valley

The Swan Valley is Western Australia’s (WA) oldest wine region and has earned its reputation as Perth’s Valley of Taste. Situated just 25 minutes from the city, the Valley seduces visitors with a rich fusion of wine, food, art, scenery and nature. You can experience its many wonders along the award-winning Swan Valley Food and Wine Trail – a 32 kilometre loop taking in more than 150 attractions including wineries, lively breweries, fine restaurants, bustling cafes, distilleries, shops, accommodation and roadside stalls selling fresh local produce. The Swan Valley in Western Australia (WA) is a world of surprises just minutes away from Perth’s doorstep.

Chittering Valley

The myriad of orchards, farms and vineyards that dot the hillsides of the Chittering Valley ensure that this part of Western Australia is well worth a visit.

The 76 kilometre Chittering Valley Wine Trail winds from Chittering through to Gingin and past a number of public sculptures: the Bull, Willy Wagtails, the Nest and the Travelling Monk. Each sculpture depicts a story that relates to the area. Historical sites of interest in the area include the Old Well at Muchea, the Chittering Museum and the Holy Trinity Church in Chittering.

There are seven wineries to visit and numerous places along the way that sell fresh local produce from the farm gate.

The grapes of the region include grenache, viognier, chenin blanc, chardonnay, verdelho and shiraz.

Highlights of the area include:

The Golden Grove Observatory in Chittering – the observatory is situated in an orange orchard and is one of the best and most accessible commercial observatories in Perth.

BULLSBROOK – home to the Maze which offers fun activities, a parkland area and the chance to picnic with koalas, kangaroos and emus

  • "Thank you to Rose & John for making our family Xmas at Roo's Retreat so special. From the personal tour of the property, the fridge full of treats, a toy room set up for the kids, a gorgeous Xmas tree and fresh flowers not to mention the homemade cakes, this would have to be one of the best properties we have booked on Stayz!! The house had everything we could have ever needed and the surrounding gardens and visits by the kangaroos were just magical. We have already recommended your property to lots of our friends and we will definately be booking another stay at Roo's Retreat. Thanks again Rose & John :-)"

  • "Fantastic stay - thank you Rose and John! Stayed here when it first "opened" in SEP09 and happy to say the hospitality and property facilities are as good as ever - if not better. Fabulous for families with younger kids - everything has been thought of and the kids love see the kangaroos every day. Thanks again - we will be back again soon. :o)"

  • "As soon as you walk in the door you feel relaxed. The house has everything you could need and Rose has added lots of lovely touches (not to mention yummy blueberry muffins!). Beds are so comfy and the interior decorating all matches beautifully. My husband is now desparately looking for the same reclining lounge chairs and so are my parents. Kangaroos are lovely especially the joeys. Will definately be coming back, maybe for a winter break next time as it will be lovely to have the fire going. Thanks John & Rose for a great break."

  • "Our girls weekend away was fantastic. This house was perfect for the 8 of us. We each had an extremely comfortable bed to ourselves and each of the bedrooms had its own ensuite. This house was pure luxury and had everything we needed and more. Watching the baby kangaroos playing on the front lawn (hundreds of them) was an absolute joy. We will definately be back. Thanks John and Rose."

  • "We stayed at Roos retreat for almost a month on and off, and it was perfect. We were working at the local Raaf base and it was wonderful to come home each night and relax on the deck watching all the locals (aka kangaroos!) on the front lawn. John and Rose were perfect hosts who made us feel very welcome and we are hoping to get back over there someday and spend a bit of time relaxing in their wonderful house. Thank you both for a great stay."

  • "A wonderful stay yet again! We were so excited to be back - the moment we drove through the gate up to the house, the city stress just dropped away. The view was magnificent, the rain showers passing across the valley mesmerising. Such a tranquil place to relax, and read, and lounge all day long. Back again next year for sure! :) "

  • "A very warm reception was received not only by John and Rose but by the native wildlife, seeing them so relaxed had an immediate effect. Absolutely stunning scenery - this too adding to the already relaxed feeling! A beautiful specious house with everything you could possibly need and with views from every window making you feel so much apart of the bush - no blinds closed so could just wake up to the sunrise, the birds and the Roo's with a cup of tea on the balcony - heaven. We'll be back!!"

  • "Thanks a million to Rose & John for a fab stay. We will be back. The house is perfect and has absolutely everything you could need. The views were gorgeous and we couldn't beleive the amount of kangaroos that came to visit. We loved the home made treats they left and wine went down very well :) Thanks again, it was like a home away from home."

  • "This is a magnificent facility, catering for all ages, with toys, books and DVDs for kids. Fully equipped kitchen, 5 toilets and a fantastic outlook over the valley from the verandah and lounge, with up to 30 kangaroos on the grounds in the evenings. We all loved it and now highly recomend Roo's Retreat to all our friends. We'll be back!"
