Swan/Chittering Valley

We are proud of the diverse Shires with the lovely Chittering and Swan Valley and all our other beautiful scenery with it's magnificent wildflowers and friendly people.

The Swan Valley is Western Australia's oldest wine region and has earned its reputation as Perth's Valley of Taste. Situated just 25 mintes from the city, the Valley seduces visitors with a rich fusion of wine, food, art, scenery and nature. You can experience its many wonders along the award-winning Swan Valley Food and Wine Trail - a 32 kilometre loop taking in more than 150 attractions including wineries, lively breweries, fine restaurants, bustling cafes, distilleries, shops, accommodation and roadside stalls selling fresh local produce. The Swan Valley in Western Australia is a world of surprises just minutes away from Perth's doorstep.

Today Guildford is one of only two towns in Perth on the National Trust register and many fine colonial buildings from the township’s earliest days continue to grace the streets.

You can learn much about this fascinating history by setting out on one of the self-guided heritage walk trails which meander through the streets . The walk trails start from the Swan Valley Visitor Centre. Here you can view Guildford’s original courthouse (c. 1866) and interpretive displays that explain much about the region’s past.

Unique Market
Be sure to visit the James Street antique strip, which offers one of the largest ranges of secondhand wares outside Perth. There’s also quaint home décor outlets, specialty gift shops, galleries and clothing stores.

To discover a real treasure, visit the Guildford Heritage Art Markets, held on the third Sunday of the month. Here you can buy handmade goods and fresh homemade foods in a market typified by its country-style charm.

Eating out
With several dining experiences to choose from, why not soak up the village atmosphere and visit one of the restaurants, pubs and cafés. Ranging from quaint tea rooms and historic pubs to venues that offer tapas, Thai, Italian and modern Australian fare.

Chittering Valley

The myriad of orchards, farms and vineyards that dot the hillsides of the Chittering Valley ensure that this part of Western Australia is well worth a visit.

The 76 kilometre Chittering Valley Wine Trail winds from Chittering through to Gingin and passed a number of public sculptures: the Bull, Willy Wagtails, the Nest and the Travelling Monk. Each sculpture depicts a story that relates to the area. Historical sites of interest in the area include the Old Well at Muchea, the Chittering Museum and the Holy Trinity Church in Chittering.

There are seven wineries to visit and numerous places along the way that sell fresh local produce from the farm gate.

The grapes of the region include grenache, viognier, chenin blanc, chardonnay, verdelho and shiraz.

Highlights of the area include:-

The Golden Grove Observatory in Chittering - the observatory is situated in an orange orchard and is one of the best and most accessible commercial observatories in Perth.

STRINGYBARK Winery, Restaurant and Function Centre in Chittering, WA was established in 1985 and was named as a result of its original owner’s connection with STRINGYBARK CREEK in North Eastern Victoria.

In much earlier times, the legend of Australian bushranger Ned Kelly became folklore following the shootout with Sgt. Kennedy and Constables Scanlon and Lonigan at STRINGYBARK CREEK.

The location is truly special and particularly comes alive during spring with magnificent wildflower displays…..and all only 20 minutes from Roo's Retreat.

Bullsbrook

Bullsbrook is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia in the outer metropolitan area. It is located with the City of Swan. The original Bullsbrook townsite is located slightly west of the current town, on the 17 km mark of the Midland Railway. Bullsbrook is also the home to the RAAF Pearce airbase, a major training facility for the Royal Australian Air Force.

Home of the Maze which offers fun activities, a parkland area and the chance to picnic with koalas, kangaroos and emus - if you don't get lost amongst the many mazes!

RAAF Pearce - which held a very successful Royal Air Show in May 2012.

Redroof Steakhouse

The rustic restaurant is a great dining venue all year round offering a welcoming open log fire in winter through to air conditioned comfort during the summer. It also provides a free shuttle service from Roo's Retreat to the steakhouse and return, for up to 10 people, must be pre-booked.
