Description
The Retreat is a heritage circa 1881 school on riverside gardened grounds.
The Retreat was awarded 'Best New Business' and highly commended for 'Tourism & Hospitality' by the District Chamber of Commerce. To quote the judges the Retreat is "above outstanding". Top ranking by all guests. Independently critiqued across over 500 luxury accommodations in Australia as being in the top 5%.

A choice of separate and distinguishably styled suites:
o River Wing with a gentrified touch,
o French Wing for that Parisian provincial feel, and
o School House with a distinctly New York
warehouse bent.
Each suite comprises a gourmet kitchen with dining room, lounge and bedroom and large bathroom.
Old meets new. The exterior retains its heritage origin and colours. The new transcends a hot tub in the River Wing's veranda to classic bidet and claw bath in the French Wing and a waterfall glass bath in the School House.
Comfort features include an entertainment centre, wood fire to mellow by and gourmet kitchen.
Beyond the comforts, pampering with a facial and choice of massage by a qualified professional are available in the privacy of your suite.
With gardens to roam, fireplaces to relax by or tour the local historic townships, taste el vino, play golf and visit the world heritage Barrington Tops. The surrounds are rural with families of platypus, kangaroos and diverse birds from rosella to kookaburra and hawk.
The Retreat sits on a 2 acre parcel of land which makes for a range of things to do. The river is inviting for a swim or perhaps the catch of the day. The golf driving net and chipping green beckon. Each retreat has its own activity from croquet to boule and outdoor checkers.
The Heritage Retreat is directly adjacent to the St. Mary on Allyn Church and near by St. Anne's Anglican Church and St.Helen's Catholic Church. The Retreat serves as an ideal location for wedding party's to prepare, guests to stay or a marque to be erected to cater for your reception.
Additonally, wine tours and transfers to concerts and events can be arranged by coach, limousine or helicopter.
The Retreat offers a selection of award winning wines, champagne, beers and mixers. By all means BYO.
Where are we?
The Retreat is nestled in the Hunter Valley. It is centred in the shire of Dungog between the vineyards of Cessnock and the recreational Barrington Tops world heritage reserve.
The Retreat is located within an easy drive of Sydney, Newcastle, Port Stephens and more. Alternatively, flights are available to Newcastle by sea plane or commercial plane with chauffer car or mini bus transfers or simply hire a car at the Newcastle airport or township. For the more indulgent a helicopter service is available from a pick up of your choice and lands at your door on the Retreat.

Tariffs are per suite per couple and include a self cook breakfast and GST. Discounts are provided for group bookings of two and three suites.

Concert transfers are available. Also mid week stay 3 nights with 4th free (Sunday-Thursday except for public holidays, major concert events and the Christmas period).
