Description

Pittwater's hidden valley:
It's the perfect winter retreat - The Treehouse at Mackerel Beach. The two-bedroom, two-storey cottage is surrounded by tree tops, overlooking Mackerel Beach's enchanting valley - the area's best-kept secret. Enjoy a cosy log fire and sunny, north-facing deck. Be refreshed and invigorated by the valley's crisp, clean air. Lorrikeets, kookaburras and king parrots are frequent visitors. So are wallabies and goannas. Shy lyre birds sing everyday and sometimes dance in the back garden, which extends into Kuring-gai National Park.

Best beach on Pittwater:
The beach is a five-minute stroll down grassy Monash Avenue. There are no cars, just a few golf buggies and lots of wheelbarrows for cartage. The swimming is safe and clean in the calm sea of Pittwater. The bushwalks are stunning. There are two kayaks stored at The Treehouse available for guests to use - and treat with respect.

Water access only:
Mackerel Beach is directly across Pittwater from the Palm Beach Ferry Wharf on Barrenjoey Road. Access is by ferry, water taxi or "tinnie". Check ferry timetables at the Palm Beach Ferry website.

Sophisitcated Seclusion:
The Treehouse is not only delightful and comfortable, but it's also superbly equipped with a new kitchen and modern appliances which include a microwave, dishwasher, water-efficient washing machine and a drier. There's also basic Foxtel, a DVD player, sound system, a telephone and ADSL broadband. There is a gas barbeque on the deck. The main bedroom has a small en suite. Both rooms have queen beds. There's a single bed in an open-plan area upstairs.

Number of guests:
The maximum number of guests is strictly five. The Treehouse is best suited to one or two couples. If you are hoping to bring more people, please discuss with the owner.

Linen supplied:
We provide all bed linen, blankets and bath towels. But it's BYO beach towels.

No parties:
Parties and functions are strictly not allowed.

No pets:
By law cats are prohibited and dogs are discouraged, with strict regulations. Out of respect for the wildlife here we do not allow pets of any sort at The Treehouse. We also ask you not to feed the wildlife because it interferes with their natural habitat and can encourage aggressive behaviour.

Water:
The house has tank water for all cooking and washing. It is precious. Please use it wisely. The toilets and the garden hoses operate on bore water.

Food:
There are no shops at all on Mackerel Beach so you bring your own food and drink. The Treehouse supplies some basics - the details supplied when a booking is made.

  • "The Treehouse offers the perfect balance: it's close to Sydney yet feels like an island escape. The house is clean, functional and professionally managed but also relaxing, comfortable and private. We loved the 3 days that we spent at Mackeral Beach and felt very at home at The Treehouse. We will definitely return. Thank you."

  • "We had a great stay at the Treehouse everything was there that was needed to have a great holiday. The BBQ on the verandah was most useful for meals when not using the well equipped kitchen. The short walk to the pristine beach and ferry trip to Palm beach was most enjoyable. Hope to stay again another time at the Treehouse for the peace and quiet. "

  • "We recommend The Tree House 100% if you want a relaxing and quiet holiday. The house is accessed by ferry only. This makes the holiday very special even it takes only a short time from the city. There are so many things to do. We enjoyed a hiking to West head and fishing. Residents there were so friendly and helpful as if We were thier neighours. We appreciate all of the help of the owner. He made a lot of efforts to make our stay comfortable. We hope we can stay there longer next time."

  • "We stayed at the Treehouse for a week as part of our honeymoon. The location is beautiful and peaceful and a great place to recover from a wedding, with privacy, a great balcony for reading, BBQ, breakfasts and watching the wildlife but at the same time offers a range of activities for outdoor enthusiasts - we swam, snorkelled, hiked in the beautiful bush aroudn West Head and were so busy we did not even have time to use the kiyaks or go fishing (though we saw many many large fish and crustaceans while snorkelling). Staying at the Treehouse was even better than I had expected. The house was extremely clean and well maintained, the facilities provided were well thought out and everything provided for use was functioning. The owners were available for contact by telephone/email/sms if any questions arose and were prompt with replies and able to provide clear explanations from a distance. We come from Norway, and being able to find such an amazing property to rent for a week of our holiday was a fantastic way to get away from Sydney city without travelling too far. I would definitley recommend this property and location to young couples wanting to get away for a while, and also to people from overseas travelling with their families wishing to see another part of Sydney other than the city and an the ocean beaches. I would definitely consider staying here again!)"

  • "Stayed at The Treehouse for our 2nd wedding anniversary. We absolutely loved EVERYTHING about the house and Mackeral Beach. Have been recommending the house to everyone we know!! "

  • "The Treehouse was just what we were looking for - a quiet retreat surrounded by beautiful bushland. The house itself had every comfort we needed, and the view was spectacular. We very much enjoyed it. Highly recommended!"

  • "The Treehouse is a great house in a place that feels far away but is actually an hr's drive from Sydney. The weather was great when we were there and there is a great beach to lay around in. The house is clean and fitted wtih all the modern appliances to make your trip away easy and like home. The dishwasher, the washer and dryer, the TV and internet, stereo and the great balcony and bbq was such a convenience. This is the second time I visited this house, the first time my friend rented it and I visited for the day. The bathroom is modern and clean. The bedrooms are a good size and the kitchen has all you need for a great week. Througherly recommended."

  • "Generous, beautiful home up amongst the trees with a living soundscape of the bush around you. Fantastic."

  • "We had a great stay at the Treehouse. Would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a secluded getaway to get out of the city for the weekend. Lots of native wildlife visitors, beautiful beach, and easy access to Palm Beach if you really need a pub/restaurant/supermarket. Perfect spot for a relaxing getaway - instant relax. The Treehouse had great facilities, plenty of room, great fireplace for winter, and an easy 51-0 minute stroll down to the beach. We parked our car at Palm beach Ferry - $50 for 2 days, so unless you want to fund Pittwater council, maybe leave the car behind if it can be avoided."
