  • "Our expectations were well exceeded, to say the least! The stunning lodge is a beautiful Scandinavia mansion set in lush quiet mountain forrest and built by Peter some years back. There is plenty do do around especially if you're a bush lover. If you want to just relax and enjoy some tranquility then this is also perfect for you, the weekend there was very medicinal for us! Peter is a beautifully warm and incredibly interesting host too, very generous, very fun and entertaining, always with stories and knowledge to share, very professional and a great cook...it's lovely to stay at a b&b where the host is also the cook and respects the "food is medicine" attitude. A stay here guarantees happiness. We will definitely be back. Thank you Peter :-)"

  • "Well, the B&B experience simply doesn't get any better than this! From the moment you descend the driveway, Olga (Peter's dog) greets you at the gate with unbridled enthusiasm. Peter holds nothing back in the amazing experience of family-like hospitality. The lodge is exquisite in every way (Peter actually built much of it himself!, the appointments are first-class and Peter is an absolute delight to chat with around the bar, at breakfast and at any time he's around. And the food--well, you can be guaranteed, that there is zero chance that you will leave breakfast hungry. Don't expect the typical "continental" breakfast you get at many B&Bs--at the Kookaburra Lodge, it's an assault on the senses of a full Scandinavian-style breakfast that you'll be unlikely to encounter again in this country. Amazing! There's wood everywhere and the special warmth of the open-plan design and the woodfire heater in the bar gives the whole place the feel of being in a Swiss chalet. All in all, a grand experience and HIGHLY recommended! Thank you Peter! 6 out of 5 stars! "

  • "What a lovely place!!! Everything was beautiful, the house, the rooms, and the back yard but the hospitality was amazing!! Peter made this holiday an unforgettable holiday, we felt at home in this beautiful house and spent the evening hearing interesting stories and enjoying a drink or two with Peter in front of the fire place while the kids enjoy Easter chocolate eggs. The wonderful breakfast in the morning and the sky full with start at night made this a perfect holiday. Thank you Peter and we will come back again"

  • "As a travel and food writer I'm constantly visiting new 'up market' properties and exploring new regions. I personally found my visit to Kookaburra Lodge at Bowen Mountain a wonderful experience as owner/host Peter was such a personable and professional operator. Although the large, open-planned house did not appear as glossy and modern as other, more corporate hotel styled B&Bs, I found the value for money, quality of fittings and all round general comfort to be fantastic. Literally five minutes drive from the beautiful Kurrajong Village, with the incredible Sassafras Creek cafe (great food) on the main street, the Bowen Mountain location was an easy to find and impressive choice. With any accommodation stay it's always nice to be surprised with something special. For me, my stay began with a relaxed chat and supper at the bar with talking over a sip of cleverly selected vintage cleanskin Coonawarra red wine - a facinating discovery. Indoors, the lodges spacious and clean rooms opened onto expansive deck areas with brilliant forest mountain and valley views. After a grand sleep in the four poster bed, Peter offered no less than three breakfast choices. I opted for, and highly recommend his Finland heathy European "dream" gourmet breakfast of Gravlax (in-house perfectly cured Salmon), walnut bread with coconut oil spread (amazing), range of artisan cheeses (including sheep's, goat's and cow's) and further condiments. This was without doubt, an outstanding feast, worthy of Good Food Guide status; no doubt a testament to Peter's long experience as personal assistant to the ambassador and house-manager at the Brazilian international embassy in Canberra. (another fascinating tale!) As many travellers would know, when staying in a B&B, sometimes part of the pleasure is meeting and learning a little about the host. In the case of Kookaburra Lodge I found my options ranging from friendly chats to secluded and very private peace and quiet when required. As a new visitor to the Hawkesbury/lower Blue Mountains region, I was also excited to view the magical undulating landscape of orchards, lush farms and the many and varied hamlets with natural ever-green hilly backdrops. Painting yet another great scene of rural Australia, I had completed again, another worthy mini-break holiday."

  • "What a wonderful place! Our stay at the Kookaburra Lodge has been certainly unforgettable, thanks to a great, warm, friendly and perfect host such as Peter, beautiful venue and two lovely dogs! It is the best spot in the Blue Mountains, with an amazing panoramic view and surrounded by beautiful nature with plenty of different colourful birds! It is a great pleasure to get to meet such interesting person and see how much passion and dedication he puts into running the lodge and making sure that the guests feel like home - and even better ;) Certainly worth note is also the delicious brekkie cooked and served with great style! We can't wait to be back soon again! Thank you!!!"

  • "Relaxed home with lovely facilities and amazing food. The host was very friendly and accomodating. It felt like we were staying with a friend rather than just renting a room. It was so nice being served breakfast while looking out onto a sunny balcony with a billion birds and gorgeous views. Not to mention sitting in front of the fire with a well-stocked bar, having a drink and a chat before bed. Breakfast and snacks in-between were plentiful and delicoius. I can't remember the last time we ate or drank so well. Comfortable home, good company and delicoius food - we couldn't ask for more. Thank you Peter!"
