SANTA BARBARA is a recent addition to YourUltimateBeachHouseExperience, a concept by Jose and Helen who are very passionate about hosting you only in the best waterside properties. SANTA BARBARA takes its name from the town where Jose's grandparents' home and mango orchards are -- where he spent countless lovely summers as a boy.
The beach and rock fishing are a mere 7 minute walk from SANTA BARBARA, the cafes in the centre of Kiama are 5 minutes away. The tidal pool, lighthouse and fish market are 10 minutes away. Only 1.5 hours drive south of Sydney, Kiama is a picture perfect town with its dramatic rocky coastline, sandy beaches and attractive harbour. The hinterland behind the town is dominated by lush green dairy pastures and rolling hills.
The area's original inhabitants, the Wodi Wodi Aborigines, are said to have called the place Kiarama-a or Kiar-mai. The meaning is usually given as where the sea makes a noise, a reference to the blowhole, known as Khanterintee, meaning mysterious noise, by the local Aborigines. Kiama is proud of its heritage as a major port more than a century ago and has frozen in time its elegant old buildings. It has iconized its oceanfront caravan parks to remind us of the simple summer pleasures of Aussies of an almost bygone era.
Yet Kiama has strong sense of its future -- its 4.5 star resort hotel opening soon, only 5 minutes walk from SANTA BARBARA. Kiama is the best base from which you can explore the water parks of Jamberoo, the quaint town of Berry, the white sands of Jervis Bay, hang-gliding at Stanwell Park, and dotting NSWs own Great Ocean Road -- the hamlets of Coalcliff and Coledale, the upcoming villages of Bulli, Austinmer and Thirroul.
A villa perched on a clifftop, SANTA BARBARA has a most exciting waterside position. It has wide panoramas and big skies. Its thunderstorms are dramatic and its sunset moving. Clifftoppers revel in theatrical effects. Its perfectly northerly orientation ensures a flood of warm sunshine all through the cooler months making it an ideal escape all year round.
We suggest the warm woolen jumper and a good bottle of red in winter; in spring binoculars to watch the whales with their babies heading back south; the sun cream, fishing rod and sand between your toes in summer; and in autumn those long outdoor dinners are perfect with the balmy evenings. Watch nature at play -- pelicans and sea eagles, dolphins and whales from any vantage point - your bedroom or living room, deck or courtyard, the beachfront reserve or from the cliff edge.
You can ring a number of cafes hand-picked for you to deliver hot breakfast in bed or any cuisine you fancy. Or just walk to the pubs and bistros and enjoy many drinks without watching out for blue lights. And oh, an indulgence you should not miss is a home-visit massage on the deck, under the sun or under the stars.
