At the centre you can spend hours exploring the regions history and why the it is one of a few world heitage properties in the world that satisfy all four criteria to be eligable for a world heritage listing.

Little Lagoon is a great place to enjoy a barbecue, to have a swim or to wet a line. Towards Monkey Mia is the turn off to Peron National Park. Along the way you can visit popular fishing spots at Big Lagoon, Cattle Well, South Gregories, Gregories, Bottle bay and Skipjack Point where the is a canterlevered walkway with great views. But remember this is 4WD only and you must let your tyres down to drive on the track. Please follow the code of the track and let your tyres down to around 20/25 psi and engage 4wd before heading up the track. this track north is suitable for high clearence 4x4 only, not "soft roaders".

OTHER VISITORS IN TOWN AND A FEW CAUTIONS

Around town, especially in the warmer months there will often be wildlife visitors such as emus. These birds wander through the town and are often seen slowly walking along the foreshore and streets. Please take care when driving and allow them to make their way off the road and then drive on slowly. Do not approach them on foot and they will not cause any trouble for you. When driving around town, you will have to be careful of other visitors stopping suddenly to take photos of them.

Take care while driving on the roads coming into town as these big birds do not have very much road sense and often cross the road without looking for oncoming vehicles and waiting for them to pass.

You may see sheep and goats as well as kangaroos feeding on the road verges, caution is required when passing these animals especially the kangaroos in the evenings and early morning. You may also see Mallee fowl crossing the road, again please slow down and allow these birds to cross the road without hitting them.

Occasionally other anoying insects and animals migrate into town from around the surrounding areas. After rain we can sometimes experience sand flies and mosquitos, so be prepared to take the normal precautions.

Driver fatigue is the cause of TOO many vehicle accidents in our area. A lot of these accidents involve drivers not used to driving longer distances, please take care on your journey to town, swap drivers and have rest breaks as we really do want you to enjoy your hoilday and come back and visit here again.
