Description

Nestled amongst the trees on one side & beach on the other on the northern edge of magnificent Batemans Bay this one bedroom cottage is warm & cozy and far removed from the chills of Canberra & surrounds. It provides the perfect retreat to unwind, de-stress and recuperate from the rigors of city life.

We are very happy to accommodate our guest's four legged friends and there is a closed in garden at The Cottage for them to run around and do their thing. There are also some wonderful places for them to run free and surf in the many coves at the water's edge within walking distance.

Picture yourself breathing clean fresh air on the north easterly aspect deck enjoying a glass of red with your partner after a leisurely walk along the cliff tops from Maloney's Beach. Beside you are a dozen oysters from the Clyde River, reputed to be Australia's cleanest river and home to the best oysters in the country. The kookaburras are sitting in the trees looking enviously at you both knowing that in a little while they are likely to share some of the leftovers from your BBQ.

Although large enough and with the facilities to sleep six you won't necessarily want others intruding on your escape. Our love nest has a natural bush frontage on one side and a majestic 5 minute stroll along the cliff front to the beach on the other. Restaurants, supermarkets, coffee shops are all available in the Batemans Bay township 5 km south along the highway. There is a local store in Maloney's Beach 600 meters from the house.

The house has one large master bedroom with French doors leading out to the back deck. There is a large northerly facing sun room with "L" shaped sofa that converts to another double and another sofa in a separate room that also converts to a double. We have one bathroom with toilet, plus an external toilet for the boys. The kitchen is cosy with LPG stove and cooktop. Most of our living is outdoors on the deck where you will find a large LPG bar-b-que and outdoor eating around a large 6-seater table.

This is not the Savoy. The house is very comfortable with the emphasis on relaxation. Everything is provided including linen and towels, blankets, pillows, doonas (for a maximum of six people), crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, spices, condiments, TV with DVD, stereo with iPod docking station so if you have an iPod bring it. There are many CD's but you also might like to bring any favourite CD's. There is a wood fired fire, overhead fans in all rooms and a laundry with washer and dryer at rear of house. There is no telephone but you do have mobile coverage. All you need to bring is your food during your stay.

The Batemans Bay area is roughly 230 km south of Sydney and 115 km east of Canberra.

The drive down from Sydney along the coast will take you through some of the most picturesque areas Australia has to offer. The scenery around the coast near Kiama is unsurpassed and you can stop off at the historic towns of Berry, Ulladulla and Milton for a coffee. Normally taking a little over three hours, you'll want to allow perhaps four and half hours to relax and take in some of the sites along the way.To round out you romantic holiday, on returning to Sydney you may want to take the alternative scenic route up through the Kangaroo Valley.

Coming from Canberra will take you through historic Braidwood. Don't forget to stop at the bread shop and buy a loaf of their famous bread hot out of the oven. You'll be in Batemans in a little over two hours from Canberra.

From Sydney, 46km after passing through Uladulla, you'll see the turn off to Long Beach on the left. After turning off and following Cullendulla Drive 4.8km you'll turn left into Northcove Road. Our retreat is on the left hand side of the road and you'll see the number on the little blue letterbox.

From Canberra, you'll turn left at the Pacific Highway at the end of the Kings Highway and you'll see the turn-off to Long Beach about 5km north.

  • "Such a lovely cottage with a a lovely bush outlook, quiet and very comfortable. Our 3 children and 3 dogs had a great time and didn't want to leave!.Excellent pretty beaches only 5 minutes walk away - great for fishing and suitable for young children.(Just remember in summer, dogs are only allowed afternoon access). But you are also only 10 minutes drive from Sth Durras beach which has nice surf (for bigger kids) and 24hour access for dogs. Can't wait to come back and stay again!"
