Description

PLEASE NOTE: We endeavour to respond to Stayz enquiries within 48 hours.

This traditional Dennes Point beachside shack looks out over North Bruny's Nebraska Beach, and is only 30 seconds' walk to its white sands and calm silver waters.

Although cleverly renovated to provide all the creature comforts, Carrington Cottage retains its simple beach-shack look and feel, and it is the perfect base for exploring Bruny Island’s gourmet and wilderness delights.

Dennes Point...
Is a popular swimming, sailing, diving, fishing and kayaking spot;
Has a growing arts and crafts community (the Dennes Point hall has reopened to include a gallery, The Point Restaurant and Jetty café and providore store);
Is the drop-off point for Hobart's ferries;
Makes the perfect starting point for a self-styled gourmet trail (check out Get Shucked Oysters, and Bruny Island Cheese Co, for starters); and,
Is a fantastic place to head out for bushwalks or to go whale/dolphin-spotting.

Your hardest decision of the day? Whether to sit on the deck and watch the sunset, with a glass of wine and your own caught-and-cooked seafood dinner… or head out for a meal at one of Bruny's excellent restaurants or pubs.

ACCOMMODATION

Dating from the 1950s, this traditional fisherman's cottage has been fully refurbished, with new bathroom, kitchen, polished floors throughout, repainting inside and out, and a new wrap-around deck.

Inside, this cosy cottage offers open-plan living, kitchen, dining area and lounge (with LCD TV, DVD, books and games, and wood heater); two bedrooms; and a separate bathroom with shower and toilet.

The shack can sleep 5 people. The master bedroom has a Queen Bed; the second bedroom offers 2 singles and a trundle.

Outside is a BBQ, garage, laundry and toolshed, grassed back garden, as well as a wrap-around timber deck with views over the water.

A kayak and boat moorings complete the picture. The cottage is a mere 40m to safe, clean Nebraska Beach.

NOTES

The Dennes Point community hall has reopened and includes an art gallery, The Point restaurant and Jetty café, and small produce store (plus newspapers, such as The Guardian) – check daily for service of lunches and dinners.

We do not allow any animals INSIDE the shack. Please let us know if you would like to take your pet with you.

A landline is available for guest use. There is no restriction on incoming calls, but outgoing calls are limited to a 100km radius, and the phone does not dial to mobiles. Mobile phone coverage on Bruny Island is variable. There is a public phone at the community hall.

You'll need to bring all food, toiletries and beach towels. Basic food items are available from the café/shop at the refurbished community hall at Dennes Point (2 minutes' walk north from Carrington Cottage). However, the café/shop may not be open every day. Petrol is not available at Dennes Point. Basic items (milk, newspapers) are also available at the small takeaway at the ferry terminal at Roberts Point, 20km (20 minutes) away. The only petrol on the island is available from the supermarket at Adventure Bay, about 45 minutes' drive south from the shack.

Carrington Cottage is on the shore of D'Entrecasteaux Channel, recognised as one of the world's most beautiful waterways and cruising grounds. For your convenience and enjoyment, Carrington Cottage is able to provide a choice of three all-weather moorings situated right off the shack. Mooring availability may be limited and we strongly advise you pre-book.

  • "Thanks for allowing us to hire your lovely shack, we had great weather, your facilities are fantastic and we will certainly be back again sometime."

  • "This house is in such an amazing spot! The view is amazing, looking over the ocean to the surrounding Tasmanian mountains is something I'd be happy to wake up to everyday. The house has everything you could need to be comfortable, especially firewood and that brilliant open fireplace for those cold stays in winter. The TV is big, the electric blankets are warm and did I mention that the view are spectacular? We were only a 15 minute drive from the Bruny Island Cheese co. The beach across the road is lovely for an evening stroll and the pier just down the road is perfect for fisherman. The owners are lovely and we can't wait to return next time we're on Bruny! Oh, and there IS mobile reception too! "
