What's on?
Summer is approaching...time to pull out the sun hat & hit the beach!
Gorgeous renovated beach house, with air conditioning, brand new kitchen, & polished boards. Sleeps four comfortably in 2 bedrooms (1 queen bed, plus 2 king singles). Portacot also available on request.
Cudmirrah is 200km south of Sydney and was recently rated as one of the top 5 escapes out of Sydney. Bordered by vast stretches of National Park, white sand and crystal clear water, it is undoubtedly one of the most pristine areas on the east coast of Australia.
The Shack is an easy stroll to the beach, lake, creek, National Park, and general store/cafe. Literally park the car and walk everywhere.
Fall asleep to the sound of the ocean, and wake up to find kangaroo's in the yard. It's not for everyone, it's off the beaten track, and it's very quiet ... but that is why we think it's still so nice.
We also have 2 other properties available for short term holiday stays:
'The Lighthouse' - A modern 3 bedroom townhouse in Northcote which is a leafy cosmopolitan suburb just 10 minutes from Melbourne CBD. Stayz property ID no 83321. Further details at http://www.stayz.com.au/83321 ..and;
'Cloudland' A beautifuly renovated house located in Victoria's Dandenong Ranges. Further details at http://www.stayz.com.au/66092
The house is a 1950's two bedroom beach shack that has been updated but it hasn't lost it's charm and seaside roots. We've ripped up the old brown carpet and polished the boards, a wall has been removed to create a larger open plan kitchen/living/dining area, the addition of some french doors has brought more glorious sunshine inside, a real wood fire has displaced the old gas heater, and a fresh lick of paint has brought back her glory days.
Inside we have done away with those old lumpy beds, vertical apricot blinds have made way for softer linen curtains, the rickety couch has been replaced with one that you will find hard to leave. We've scrubbed up some of the old furniture and sensitively selected other pieces from around the country-side that exude an understated sense of style and character. It is the beautiful fusion of old and new that creates a relaxed beachy vibe that new houses just can't match.
The kitchen is brand new and equipped with an island bench, breakfast bar, stone benchtops and European appliances (including a dishwasher). The bathroom hasn't been overhauled. It is basic but functional...with a shower over one of those brilliant deep old baths. We've also retained the second toilet outside - some will remember the pleasures of the old 'thunderbox'!
Finally, we just couldn’t do without an outdoor bbq in the huge backyard. It is from here that you can watch the sun disappear into the National Park at the end of each day ... and revel in the pleasures of outdoor living.
This place offers guests something different. People come here to get away from day to day life and indulge in all the simple things. A break that conjures up the weighty memories of traditional Australian family, Christmas, Easter and Summer holidays over the last 60 years...
Long days playing in the sand and surf, scoffing too many fish and chips because they are so fresh (and just seem to taste so much better than they do at home), walking or riding to the beach in thongs with a towel slung over your shoulder, grabbing an icy pole from the local store, beach cricket, sand in your bathers and between your toes, zinc across your nose...
Holidays like this are getting hard to find. A tiny little township where everyone still says 'g'day', kids safely skate on the streets, there's not much more than a little corner store selling the 'essentials' (this now includes a delicious brekky, homemade burgers, great coffee & cake), fresh fish from local fishermen are BBQ'd in the back yard, there's a Bowls Club and RSL nearby (each with a door-to-door courtesy bus) where you will find a great slap up parma, mixed grill or Chinese dinner, and a cute little cinema screening a couple of the latest flicks!
It's an ideal spot if you want to get away from it all and enjoy the charm of what the coast line used to be. It is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts ... go boating, swimming, diving, fishing, water-skiing, bike riding, canoeing, kayaking, bushwalking. Explore the creek, swim at Fisherman’s Rock, ramble around the rockpools at either end of the beach, have a picnic by the lake, watch dolphins play in the waves, whales migrating south with their young, surf until the sun goes down or just relax and enjoy the fresh sea air!
Jervis Bay is a spectacular National Marine Park just 20 minutes drive from the house and boasts having beaches with the whitest sand in the world. Drop into the villages of Huskisson, Callala and Hyams Beach or take a dolphin watch cruise around the bay.
Visit the historic towns of Berry, Milton, and Kangaroo Valley ... great food, antiques, wineries, and shops all nearby.
The Shack serves as a reminder that we don't need to have everything that glitters in life to find true happiness!
