Description

As featured in the June 2011 issue of Surfing World magazine, Monkey Mountain cabin is the ultimate place to unwind and experience modern eco-living and the beauty of the NSW South Coast.

Nestled in a secluded valley surrounded by State Forest, the cabin is a gateway to some of the best surf breaks on Australia's East Coast, and a perfect base to explore the area's pristine coastal and inland National Parks, including Meroo, Murramarang and The Buddawangs. Surfers, bush walkers and mountain bike riders, couples or young families will find this a unique holiday experience.

Situated in 50 acres of tall hardwood forest and surrounded by State Forest, the modern eco-cabin was built in 2007 from local timbers, and would comfortably accommodate 2 couples or a medium-sized family. It includes 2 larger bedrooms with queen beds and 1 smaller room with a single bed. A spare single mattress could squeeze an extra child into the smaller room.

This is modern eco-living at its best, with 100% off-grid solar powering an LCD TV, DVD & CD player, surround sound system inside and outside with iPod connector and high-speed (ADSL1 + WiFi) internet access. All water is micro-filtered from rainwater tanks, sewerage and grey water treated on-site and the building is highly-insulated, heated in winter by an open fire or efficient gas heater, and cooled in summer by natural convection and ceiling fans.

The open plan living area includes a fully-equipped kitchen with gas oven, with the dining and lounge area opening onto a covered timber deck, perfect for evening BBQs. Enjoy the view of the forest and mountains whilst soaking in the bath or the hot outdoor shower.

  • "What a find this place is! Tucked away in the beautiful Australian bush, monkey mountain cabin offers the perfect sanctuary. There is so much space, the grassy green lawn extends down to towering trees, with a view we could have looked at all day long from the spacious deck. "How's the serenity?" was a regularly used film quote throughout the weekend. Loved the solar powered cabin, very comfortable and full of natural light, with tree views from every window. After a weekend at monkey mountain I felt so relaxed and before we had even got home I had already placed another booking! Thanks Emma and Owen for creating such a special retreat."

  • "What a beautiful place! Close to the beach yet away from all the hussle and bussle of "tourists". We had very thing we wanted at our fingertips yet we felt a million miles away from stress. Came to relax and recharge and that's exactly what we were able to do. Thank you so much! "

  • "Monkey Mountain Cabin is a serene hideaway to escape bustling city life. The house is lovely - surrounded by large green lawns and then national park. No other houses or sights/sounds of civilisation - very tranquil. We spent 8 days there with 2 young kids (aged 6 and 3) and everyone had a super relaxing time. You can slip into your own timezone and just potter about or you can jump in the car and zoom down to one of the many abundant (and amazing) local beaches. Its the first time I've been away on holiday with young kids and have made it back to work actually relaxed!"

  • "Thanks Emma and Owen for the use of your beautiful getaway-from-it-all cabin. we loved the isolation and the surrounds of the magnificent forest plus the birdlife. The house itself was very comfortable and welcoming. And it was great being eco friendly! We explored the local beaches, climbed Pigeon House Mt. Monkey Mt, and Durras Mt. Recommend doing all three."

  • "Amazing spot on the south coast situated to some of the best surf breaks in oz.perfect allrounder place for those who want a surf weekend, family weekend with the kids and peaceful serenity.there were no waves that weekend but still had a great time fishing, snorkeling and swimming.the house itself has a great undercover decking area so rain hail or shine u can still entertain and not have ur weekend ruined by being stuck indoors.very private property were trouble of affecting other neighbors with your stay is not a problem and allowing you to enjoy the peace n quiet of the true south coast.love it and will continue going back there and passing on the property to others. • "The ultimate in peaceful tranquility enveloped in lush surrounds. This property really does give you the opportunity to rest, relax and replenish. Our weekend consisted of log fires, red wine, and waking up to the sounds of the forest and wildlife. An amazing getaway."

Anyone who truly loves nature and does not want to damage the environment is totally happy here. Learning about solar living and being snug in a peaceful setting is just a gift. Thanks for letting our brains hit 're-set' and for thinking of everything to make our stay so wonderful. Awesome bookshelf too! Rachael"
