Description

Phillip Island’s oldest cottage restored to its original charm. For a very special experience this is indeed a beautiful home in a picturesque setting with tranquil views over beautiful Swan Bay. Vaulted ceilings, chandeliers and old world charm blend together with modern day comforts. The house boasts four bedrooms, two bathrooms, two living areas, large country kitchen and dining with a wood stove for home style cooking and for the less adventurous, microwave, electric hotplate and BBQ.

The two delightful double bedrooms with comfortable period furnishings and main bathroom form a parents’ retreat from the rest of the house. Two additional bedrooms have single beds. Walk through the French doors of your bedroom to the expansive deck and enjoy the breathtaking views across the bay or gaze over the 100 year old orchard. There are two bathrooms, one with a separate shower and enormous claw-foot bath to soak in, the other a shower over bath.

Experience the charm of historic Rhyll with only a 5 minute drive to the Island’s main town, Cowes. In the cool of the evenings relax in front of the open fire and take in the ambience of beautiful Swan Bay. Perfect for couples, families or groups.

Guest Reviews
Thank you so much for allowing us to share your little slice of heaven.

6 good friends - lots of wine and laughs. We enjoyed the simplicity of the home and the historical value of the property. It is a charming home, one that we hope to revisit as a group anually.

What a great find this house is! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to come back. Every thing worked as it should and the little notes made it feel like home, not just a house you rent for a few days. Loved it, thanks!

This place was beautiful, we wondered how it was going to warm up the cold weekend we stayed but with the combustion stove and open fire it really got toasty. I would prefer to pay more though to ensure enough wood to heat the house during the day as it rained the whole time we stayed. There were funny notes everywhere, "clean dishes before putting away" etc, common sense stuff which was a bit weird. A note was left to say that little extra's were left in the kitchen cupboard but there were none. The coffee machine did not seem to work (a plunger might be a good idea?) nor the cd player. Even though there was this weirdness, the place had spectacular views and a wonderful homely feeling, it was a pleasure to stay there and create happy memories.

Six friends, five star cooking, several splashes of vino, fireside banter, a few good rounds of cards, late-night knitting and a lot of long laughter... a delicious weekend away at a truly magical spot. With chandeliers in the kitchen, 'cottage' is surely an understatement!

We spent 3 nights here over our 14 day trip around Victoria. It was the most special and memorable of our accommodation of anywhere that we stayed (and we stayed in lovely places). Everything about the cottage is special. The atmosphere is evident from the moment you walk through the front door. It was incredibly relaxing but also very special with simple decor and the lovely touch of chandeliers in everyroom. Everything you could want or need is there for you. We will definately return again but next time for a week. We cannot recommend Captain Locks Cottage highly enough. (ps. our 3 'furkids' loved it too).

Ah the anticipation of a weekend away with dear friends! The reality was even better. The house is gorgeous and light with so many options for pure relaxation. Everything is there. Early morning cuppa in the cosy bed, breakfast overlooking the water, book on the comfy couch after a long walk, pre-dinner drinks in front of the fire, candlelit diiner around the table. To be able to take our old dog was a bonus. He loved exploring the yard and then followed the sun around the decking for the rest of the day. Ah the serenity!!!

this house was wonderful , from the minute you walked in it was like something out of the typical girlie movie where they go fro a wekend to the beach house , wonderful white furniture and fruit trees , herbs and rubarb outside .
The view was to die for and the coffee machine made it all the more special , i would love to and will love too stay there any time and next time for much longer .
thanks for such a wonderful place .
