We are hidden in a private valley, we are not located near any traffic so vehicular noise is non existent. When you desire a peaceful escape from the city it will not be hindered by being in the proximity of a main highway like many other locations in the Hunter.
A valley breeze keeps the cottage well ventilated, with 2 oil heaters and an open fire chiminea for warmth. We are also one of the highest and most sheltered locations in the Hunter Valley, with historic Baldy Knob at the rear of the cottage.
We have plenty of room for camping in established camp spots located in pristine bushland, please enquire about our camping rates.
Mountain bikes are also available for hire.
Transport is easy - shuttle buses for concerts or wine tours leave from close by, park your car near the pickup point and avoid the traffic.
Early check-in 3pm, late check-out 11am, earlier check in or later checkout on request please.

'Jambo' is the Kenyan word for Hello, you will find this friendly cottage perfect for your weekend away. Located in deep bush, a dry sclerophyll forest, we have many features that will ensure your weekend is also a environmentally responsible one. Two bedrooms, one is a loft that is very cosy with a walkway to awesome bush and Hunter Valley views. We have a brand new bathroom with large freestanding bath and all the facilities you need to remain comfortable. Towels and linen are supplied. We have a small lounge area with Blu-Ray player, iPod dock with good speakers and a Nintendo Wii and PLAYSTATION 3 setup. Clear Digital TV channels are also available. There is ample deck space and you actually feel like your living in the trees as it is quite a high deck, very often there is a beautiful mountain breeze sweeping up from the forest and valley below.
We are well connected with the local restaurant and winery establishment and can recommend the best spots to wine and dine. The property is a huge place, fronting onto Werakata National Park, with the closest neighbours about a kilometre away. An abundance of bird and wildlife exists as well as numerous bush walking trails. The views are some of the best in the Hunter Valley but the best views are found behind the house a steep walk up 'Baldy Knob' to one of the most fantastic private viewing sites in the Hunter. The Watagan National Park with even better views is a short 15 minute drive away through tranquil farmland. A portion of the cottages power comes from a solar power system, we collect our own rainwater and there is a large orchard with seasonal fruit. Use our small cookbook library to cook up a storm on your weekend away!
To help you self cater we also provide the basics like salt, pepper, tea and coffee, condiments, milk and eggs, limes and other fresh fruit in season from the orchard and our own olive oil pressed from olives grown right here on the property.
Location
We are located one hour and 45 minutes from Sydney CBD, one hour and 15 minutes from the start of the freeway at Wahroonga. The place is easy to find, once you exit the freeway on the Cessnock/Vineyards exit it is 20 minutes. The drive into the property is 4.5 kilometres along a classic country lane with unbelievable mountain views. At certain times of the day usually late afternoon and mornings you will see dozens of kangaroos in the paddocks as you drive up the country lane.
We are 10 minutes drive from Cessnock and 15 minutes from the heart of the vineyards.
Jambo Cottage is situated 40 metres away from the main residence secluded by the trees we have planted, if you encounter any problems during your stay here there will be someone to assist most of the time.

Restaurants, winerys, National Parks, bushwalking, skydiving, golf courses, concerts and much more. We can recommended the best winerys and restaurants as we work in the hospitality industry and have good local connections. If you only feel like a quick meal and a beer we are 12 minutes from Restaurant 221 located at the Royal Oak Hotel, a highly recommended dining experience! Winner of the 2012 Restaurant and Catering awards, BEST NEW RESTAURANT, Hunter Valley!
Arrange a helicopter pickup from the Hidden Valley to arrive in style at your destination - advance bookings essential. Transport to and from your concert or night out can be arranged so you don't have to worry about anything, just ask for details when enquiring!
Or stay at home and enjoy the peace and quiet the cottage has to offer. At seasonal times of the year grab a basket and pick fresh fruit from the orchard, throw a yabbie trap in the dam or visit the dairy goats on the property. If your game throw on your joggers, grab a bottle of wine and walk to the top hill for awesome views, one of the best in the Hunter Valley.
We are also a mountain bikers heaven,lots of tracks, ride or walk down the hill into the history around the old Aberdare South Colliery building, with chimney stack...the highest in the Southern Hemisphere at the time it was built in the early 1900's. Located nearby is the Abernethy dam, a great swimming/picnic spot.
