Description

Imagine a place where the stress of city life fades away the moment you drive through the gate. A place where you swap your alarm clock for the morning calls of native birds, you swap your morning commute for nature walks, where the only sky-scrapers you'll see are the beautiful Watagan Mountains and the only traffic you are likely to come across is our resident wombat, Billy.

Our tranquil country cottage in Hunter Valley is just 1hr 45 minutes from Sydney in the village of Congewai, one of the area's most gorgeous valleys, and built high on a hill to show stunning views over Tuscan style olive groves on a working farm.

The cottage has two bedrooms (with sepearte entries)opening up to a wrap-around veranda and offers a four-post king-size bed in one bedroom and a double bed with extra day bed in the other, both with their own bathroom and fireplace. There are hammocks for the lazy afternoon nap...but for those seeking a little more adventure, we're located a short drive away from activities like the Hunter Valley's famous hot-air balloon centre, vineyards and outstanding restaurants. The Great North Walk crosses our land and bird lovers will never want to leave.

You can experience a truly guilt-free getaway on an eco friendly farm, as every service is generated from the land. Sunshine and wind make our power, drinking water comes from rainwater tanks and when it’s cold you can sit in the warm glow of a fireplace burning wood harvested from fallen trees from the land. But, your holiday will be anything but primitive. With broadband internet, Foxtel, TV, DVD player and iPod docking station in each room you can still keep one foot in with the modern world.

For a truly stress-free escape start your day with the country style breakfast waiting in your room and with a fridge in each room and a top-of-the-range BBQ on the veranda overlooking mature olive groves, self-catering is a breeze. Some of our guests, after a stroll around the olive groves looking for Billy, end up using the fishing rods on the jetty to catch fresh-water Silver Perch for a truly unique dinner experience.

So if it’s breathtaking views, eco friendly experience, closeness to nature and the ultimate in relaxation you are looking for... you have found it at Lonely Goat Olives country cottage in Congewai.

  • "We were first greeted by Keith and Elisabeth with their warm hospitality followed by an already lit fire under a blanket of stars... it was a truly breath taking experience for hubby and the kids. The fridge was filled with a scrumptious gourmet breakfast, a stunning view on the veranda and a garden of herbs to cook with. My little girl loved collecting her own eggs each morning and roaming around the farm picking flowers, olives and playing with Pumba, the ever so friendly and adorable dog. This is the first holiday where the whole family hasn't had a need to go to wineries or anywhere else, all we did was spend the whole weekend absorbing this amazing place and the ever generous hospitality provided by Keith and Elisabeth. Thanks so much and we will be back!"

  • "Fantastic getaway!!! The view was magnificent. The owners were lovely. The accommodation was superb, really like that it is fully self sustained. Pumbaa was such a delight, she is adorable and brought a smile to our faces. I will be recommending this place to all heading up to the hunter. Thank you Keith & Elizabeth for making our stay so enjoyable :O)))"

  • "Lonely Goat Olives is now one of our favourite places on earth!..how long did it take to come to this conclusion..after about 5 minutes of lying in the hammocks on the fabulous verandah, overlooking the lush olive groves, sparkling dams and rolling hills. The sense of peace and calm that this place gives is instant. The cottage is great, very comfy with lots of nice touches.Hosts Keith and Elisabeth are friendly and thoughtful hosts. We loved the camp kitchen and Pumba the dog was great company on walks(she also was a great host, keeping our son company at night as he slept in the hammock. Lonely Goat olives is a great example of stylish sustainable living. If you have a tree change dream, this place will inspire you. A perfect getaway, that soothes the soul and recharges the batteries. It was love at first sight...we'll be back!"

  • "OUTSTANDING! Words cannot describe the peaceful, tranquil and relaxing weekend we experienced. With four energetic boys..Lonely Goat Olives - with Keith and Elisabeth was an exceptional spot. We were all SO welcome and the accomodation was better than it is captured in the beautiful photo's. We caught a fish within 15minutes at the dam, toasted marshmellows, fed the horses, watches the roos bounce past and relaxed in the hammock! An awesome experience...Thanks Keith and Elisabeth"

  • "What a magical part of the world! I would highly recommend this property for the accomodation, the scenery and the hosts - although I want it all to myself!! We can't wait to go back and sleep in the king size bed in front of the roaring fire! Oh and I caught a fish! Thanks Keith & Elizabeth for an amazing weekend."

  • "When we booked the cottage we thought it was going to be nice, but when we arrived it really it exceeded our expectations. What a beautiful place Keith and Elisabeth have created! First of all there are the surroundings and the amazing views. It felt like a piece of Tuscany in the beautiful Australian landscape. The cottage makes this little piece of heaven on earth complete! They thought of everything and made it feel very homy. We definitely will be back!"

  • "We knew we were in for a treat when Keith called us before we left Sydney to see if we would like the fire in our room lit for our arrival. It just got better from there! The property is stunning. The beds are unbelievably comfortable. The views spectacular. Our little girls loved it. Keith and Elizabeth are very generous and hospitable hosts. Lots of love has gone into creating this perfect environmentally friendly getaway. And we won't talk about the secret beauties of the Hunter wineries that are only 15 minutes away...we've already booked to come back! "

  • "What an lovely weekend! We arrived to find a basket full of delicious goodies to accompany our Hunter Valley Shiraz purchases as well as all the provisions for our very own BBQ breakfast each morning... Keith and Elisabeth had a roaring fire waiting so we could sit and enjoy the amazing star scape, the cabin was fully equipped with wi-fi and Foxtel, DVD library and a books to borrow. We had grand plans to try fishing in the dam but in the end we lazed by our log fire and enjoyed the view down into the valley. We will definitely be back! "
