Fully equipped and family friendly, Magnolia Cottage is a heritage-listed weatherboard two-bedroom home is set in established gardens, resplendent with blossom and bulbs through spring, on a quiet residential street. Built in in the late 1920s, with wide Baltic pine floor boards, cedar picture rails, and original sash windows, this cottage is an original alternative accommodation for your Canberra short or long stay.

With two bedrooms - queen bed in one, 2 singles with electric blankets a large cot and double futon mattress in the other, and a double sofa bed in the enclosed front verandah, the house can sleep up to 6-7. Linen is provided for each booked person along with extra quilts for extra comfort through winter. Fully sound-insulated internal and external walls reduce sound transmission between rooms making for a quiet night's sleep.

Heating:
is by programable gas convection heater in sitting room and oil-filled column radiators for the bedrooms, Tastic and heated towel rail in bathroom.
Cooling:
Cooling effect by free-standing fans for bedrooms; portable air conditioner (new from Jan 2013) for sitting room with the cooling effect flowing throughout. External cooling by natural hessian drop shading in summer and keeping curtains closed to reduce heat gain.

The front garden is a riot of colour in spring, with its feature magnolia tree, azaleas, camellias, and borders chock full of herbs, flowering bulbs and pigface.

The securely fenced back yard with lots of lawn and iconic Hills Hoist has fledgling espalier fruit trees, herb and vegetable gardens, and space to kick a ball or chill out. Well behaved pets are welcome too.

A bitumen drive links front to back giving plenty of hard standing for off road parking.
Easy to find, easy to park, Magnolia Cottage is in a very central yet very quiet location, only 1km from War Memorial, and a short drive to the Nation's tourist attractions such as the National Gallery, Museum, Questacon, Parliament House, AIS, Lake Burley Griffin, and a huge range of restaurants, pubs and clubs located minutes away in Ainslie, Braddon, Civic and Dickson. If you prefer to cater for yourselves, the wonderful local Ainslie IGA can supply all your shopping needs from fresh veg, goat chops to free range cooked chook, local made breads and dips.

Corroboree Park, with its tennis & basketball courts, climbing frames, swings, slides and picnic areas with free barbeque is a hop skip and jump over the road.

Out and about in Canberra's centenary year

The cottage is ideally placed for exploring Canberra and surrounds. After a trip up Mount Ainslie for the iconic view of the war memorial and Anzac Parade, there is a plethora of places to go and things to do - the war memorial, museums, galleries, library, new and old Parliament Houses, the Mint, zoo and aquarium, embassies, cycling around Lake Burley Griffin

Ainslie is a great base for visiting Canberra in it's centenary year. From Summernats (early January), multicultural fetstival in February, Canberra Show (late February), Canberra Day festivities over the second weekend in March, National Folk Festival (Easter), famous Floriade (mid September - mid October), the EPIC Farmers Market every Saturday morning, and the latest National Gallery blockbuster, and a whole range of other regular events. all extra special for the Centenary year.

And slightly further afield: wine tasting drives for Canberra cool climate wineries, dinosaur museum, Cockington Green, arboretum, botanic gardens, Tidbinbilla space tracking centre, Tidbinbilla nature park, and lots of nature reserves for bush walking and kangaroo spotting, are a relatively short and very easy drive away.

Minimum stay, longer stay discount, extra people, pets, smoking

Minimum nights stay:

More than four months out from a booking the minimum stay is 7 nights. Happy to make an exception where it is adjacent to or within a smaller gap between existing bookings.

Less than four months out the minimum stay is 4 nights. Shorter bookings will certainly be considered, however an additional fee of $40 for 3 night stays or $65 for 2 night stays is applied unless the gap has a 'gap special' tariff.

Multi day discount:

7+ days $100 discount (or as shown)
14+ days $200 per week discount

Extra people:

The advertised tariffs include up to four people. There is a per night per additional person fee of $30 for adults or $15 for children.

Pets:

Well behaved pets are welcome, and are allowed inside - if house trained and won't chew my 1880s oak table legs. Pets are not allowed on the furniture or in bedrooms. I provide some old sheets and towels for pet's use in the sunroom. Pets are to be fed outside or in the sunroom - not in the house please. Dog bowls are located under taps for use outside.

The large back garden is securely fenced with lots of running around space and a few dog toys (earlier guests dependant). You are required to pick up after your pet with droppings to be sensitively disposed of (bagged and binned).

The $40 per pet per stay covers the additional cleaning costs, increased risk to new plantings, annual flea bombing and toy repacement.

Smoking:

Smoking is not allowed inside. I have provided a bucket with some sand for stubbing out and containing the butts. Please pick up, double bag and bin all butts.
