Built in 1890 this beautifully presented and stylish cottage has lost none of its charm.
It is conveniently located within easy walking distance of Hobart's CBD and the cosmopolitan hub of North Hobart's restaurant precinct.
From the moment you walk in you'll be amazed at how well the space has been utilised. When entering the stylish main living area you will visit a Tasmania as it may have been in the late 1890's through to the early 1900's. Memorabilia will trigger thoughts of life in early Australia as well as of antipodean shores that may have been left behind. An anachronistic state-of-the-art , wall-mounted, flat-screen tv can be peeled out from the wall for those who would like to savour a glimpe of contemporary life. A cosy thre-speed fan wood heater adds comfort and atmosphere complimenting the existing heating. Fire wood is always at hand.
There are two bedrooms off this living area, both with queen beds.
In line with the quirky nature of this cottage, you need to open what appears to be a pantry door to find the hidden main bedroom. This bedroom is spacious and decorated in turn-of-the-century green palettes . It is kept toasty warm by a wall mounted panel heater. A sliding door leads into yet another secret room - a small room which can be used to set up a single bed or cot.
There are welcoming polished floors throughout the cottage. Walk through to the modern, well appointed kitchen with ample cupboard space including pantry, gas hot plates, electric fan forced oven, rangehood, microwave and fridge. There are possibly some French influences here. A huge canvas on the wall showing a bicycle amidst some red chinese writing suggests other cultures are at play.here also. A solid timber farmhouse style dining setting with seating for six guests beckons, challenging the culminary expertise of diners.
Head from the kitchen to the refurbished bathroom/laundry complete with floor and wall tiles, spa bath and a front loading washer/dryer. All sparrkling and modern and belying the chronological age and true history of the cottage.
Step out from the kitchen through the bi-fold doors into the delightful backyard which really sets this cottage apart.. The timber deck and tranquil Asian-style garden complete with stands of bamboo, water feature, BBQ and outdoor setting provide a peaceful ambience for outdoor entertaining and relaxation. A bamboo bar and high backed bamboo stools invite naughtiness from those who like to live one day at a time.
The two storey studio at the rear of the yard is it's own little Utopia for those in search of some privacy or dwn time. A narrow timber staircase leads to a quaint bedroom on the top level oozing charm and intimicy and furnished with a low lying queen bed. The downstairs living area is surrounded by glass with sliding doors opening onto two sides. It is equipped with a tv and futon which converts from a comfy couch by day to a bed on standby for overflow guests if required.
Currently there is no bathroom/toilet in the studio.
The studio is available to all guests in the group and is never let independently of the booking party.
