Description

We welcome you to experience a journey to Hawksbury River's ultimate getaway, Amaroo Cottage. Nothing compares.....

Back in 1935 there were just 6 dwellings on the bend of the Hawkesbury River called Bar Point. One of these was Amaroo Cottage. In those days the river cottages were set slightly back from the river with a boatshed located at the waters edge.

All the original buildings still exist at Amaroo and have been faithfully restored by the present owners. French doors from the main cottage lounge and master bedroom open onto a large verandah that captures the morning light all year round. The newly renovated kitchen blends perfectly with the pot belly stove that is recessed in the original stand stone kitchen wall.

A gas barbeque is ideally located on the lawn by the waters edge. The outdoor garden table, studio deck and private boatshed are perfect settings for afternoon drinks before retreating to the cottage terrace for sunset dining. Amaroo offers complete relaxation by the river.

Arrive midweek by mail boat, or water taxi, own boat, runabout during weekends. Jonathan or Mary - tel - can advise on catering & any restaurant excursions that you may want to plan.

What to do

Staying at Amaroo Cottage is mostly about doing nothing. There are however a couple of fishing rods, a great collection of books, magazines & board games to keep you occupied. A stereo, small TV & video are also in place.

For those who wish to explore further afield, we suggest you contact Justin on to arrange hire of a "tinny" with a 6 HP outboard. Justin will provide a map and give you plenty of advice on the best spots to visit and the most likely places to catch fish.

Head over to Peats Bite a fabulous place to dine on the weekends with a pick up and drop off service available to Amaroo Guests.

Arrive by mail boat (midweek), water taxi or your own boat. Please feel free to contact Mary or Jonathan - - to discuss any further issues.

  • Recommendations

  • "What an experience. It's not often when a property blitzes your expectations - but Amaroo Cottage did just that. The property's location is second to none - with what I think is the best reading spot in the world. The home is filled with all the comforts from home, complete with fresh flowers, candles and as many books and DVDs as you will require. I loved the experience and can't wait to return. Also recommend a loooong lunch at Peats Bite (a five min boat trip from Amaroo)."

  • "a pretty cottage with a beautiful sense of peace and calm - artful touches throughout the house and garden - little joys to discover and the well stocked kitchen even made self catering a treat!"
    Robyn, June 2008

  • "A really lovely, homely weekender. We can recommend the boat shed for having a drink and watching the water in the afternoons. Despite the almost constant rain, we still had fun and would highly recommend it."
