Things to do

The magnificent Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens are just around the corner.
Relaxing (or challenging) bush walks are all around. Rock-climbing too.
In summer, a nearby water hole makes great swimming.
Bilpin, with it's orchards, roadside stalls and Saturday market, is 10 minutes down the road.
The Apple Bar restaurant in Bilpin is sensational.
Mount Vic Flicks cute little country cinema is 20 minutes away.
But once you arrive you probably won't leave the gates of Tomah.

N.B. Please don't smoke and sorry, no pets as they freak out the peacock.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best weekend away ever! Stayed at Tomah House for 3 nights Dec 2014 Where to begin, oh my goodness it was a wonderful weekend. Thank you for the lovely bottle of champagne - we had it on the Friday evening outside at the table and enjoyed the beautiful sunset. The property is fantastic and is exactly the way it is described on the Stayz website - actually it is 100 times better if that's possible. The view is breathtaking, the property was so lovely and beautifully laid out. We loved George the peacock and his two mistresses :) We wondered around the lovely gardens, through the orchard, picked a couple of raspberries, fed the ducks some of our bread and the peacocks their food. We didn't have any luck with the chook and an egg, but enjoyed searching for one anyway. The house (or our love "shack") as we came to call it, after reading the article in the coffee table book. Best shack we have ever been in. The stone work is amazing, and the bathroom is so unbelievable. Glass windows on three walls to take in the amazing view and the sunken concrete bathtub is worth it. You'll want to send your whole visit in the bathroom....especially the tub :) Loved all the rustic knick-knacks around the house, and all the little personal touches. This is a place which must be so hard for the owners to leave. Thanks for the advice about Apple Bar, we went there yesterday for a late lunch and it was marvelous. The pizza was great and we also tried the Hillbilly Cider. Great service (even though they looked really busy) and even better food. We had the Apple Cake with ice-cream and custard which was delicious! This is a property that you could easily stay in for a week and not need to leave it, or it could make for a beautiful base camp for people who wish to adventure out and experience everything the Blue Mountains has to offer and still come home to beautiful accommodation. Our honeymoon couldn't have been any better, and I was already hinting to my husband that maybe if we are lucky enough to have a baby we could return soon for a babymoon ;) Sarah, thank you for making our Honeymoon so special. From all the information you sent before we arrived, to the champagne gift, to the house itself, everything was just so easy. I truly hope we are able to stay again. Also please pass onto the owners how lovely their house is and tell them they have done a wonderful job blending the old home and the new home together. Amy

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Words cannot begin to describe how amazing this place is. From the wording of the guide you receive before you arrive to the detail invested in this place to the ease of leaving. Tomah is the perfect getaway for romantic city folk looking to escape the city for a couple of quiet nights away. It was exactly what we wanted to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary. We fell in love with everything about Tomah and are already planning our next trip up. It's definitely worth the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The place was great, sensational attention to detail. A very special place indeed.Being picky for the sake of being picky, the espresso maker didn't work great or else needed special techniques we couldn't figure out. Helen says a good coffee machine would be a fabulous addition. The bed is slightly saggy. We'd come back for sure, or would stay another week without hesitation. Thanks for the owners for letting us stay. What they have done is inspirational for everyone with a country or beach place.
