Where we are

Less than two hours from Sydney and 90 minutes from Newcastle the Broke Fordwich area is in the southwest corner of the mid Hunter Valley. Sitting between Pokolbin and Wollombi, Broke played a critical role in the development and history of NSW.

Next door to boutique vineyards and near the olive farms of Broke , 15-20 minutes to the heart or Pokolbin for the best wine tasting and restaurants in NSW and for the golf enthusiasts, two of the best and most challenging golf courses in Australia (the Vintage and Cypress Lakes). Near great Wedding Venues.

Broke Village stands at the base of the Brokenback and Hunter Ranges on the Wollombi Brook. The massive Yellow Rock escarpment stands guard above. The Ranges shelter Broke Fordwich from much of the rainfall that surrounding districts receive. The area has a sandy loam with river flat alluvial soil, volcanic soil and pockets of red basalt giving wine producers a variety of soil types known as terra rossa.

Today Broke Fordwich is still making history. In 1994 it was the first area formally recognised as a separate viticulture. Whilst historically, it is one of the oldest wine growing areas in Australia, it is only in the last 30 years that Broke Fordwich has started to become an important player in the Australian industry.

Today, more than a quarter of the Hunters wine grape production now comes from the area and Broke Fordwich wines are winning more than their fair share of national and international awards.

Importantly, Broke Fordwich retains its integrity as a rural community remaining free of large scale development yet offering first class B&B and self catering accommodation, restaurants and activities. Visitors to the area are surprised by the amount of wildlife they see.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Weekend Retreat! We came as a large group (with kids) to stay for a concert and this place over delivered. Mike and Colette take pride in their service, from the second you make the booking they are close at hand to answer any questions and prepare the house beautifully on arrival. This is an excellent space for a comfortable stay with a lovely kitchen and large dining space. Hot tub can't be missed too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hunter Moon - WOW!!! What a great place, you would not regret staying at Hunter Moon. From the moment we arrived, our whole group fell in love with the place. The house and its surrounding are just beautiful!!!! The house has everything that you could ask for, plenty of spacious bedrooms and living areas which suited our group just to name a few. Outside the Spa, the deck and the hammocks were popular. Hope to return and would recommend - you won't be disappointed. Communication was excellent with the owners

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exquisite and exclusive We stayed at Hunter Moon for a total of 4 days for 12 adults. Space wise was never an issue as there are 5 big and spacious rooms, plus a living room (that can be converted into a sleeping area). Everything was well catered for, towels, linens, air con (especially so during the hot summer days), oven, fantastic kitchen, utensils, spa, xbox, movies, Austar (cable), card/board games. You name it, the list goes on... The decor was beautiful, presentation of the property, both inside out are immaculate and tastefully furnished. Location wise, it is near to wineries and there are so many activities and dining area around us. Not that we have to dine outside as the kitchen will easily allow you to cook up a storm. We had some hiccups with the oven shorting out due to a storm but everything else was just perfect. You won't go wrong with this place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic accommodation We recently celebrated 50th birthdays with a group of 18 across Cicada House and Hunter Moon. Everything was perfect. Colette had lots of ideas for how we could enjoy the region and recommended a local chef who did a superb job on the Saturday night. We will definitely return. The surrounds are lovely, beds very comfy and everything you could possibly need is supplied to make it a very happy experience for all.
