Guest Reviews

  • "If you like lots and lots of smelly, dusty open cut coal mines and 'hills' man-made from coal spoil dumps then you might like Muswellbrook. I don't. If you prefer native animals in their own environment, ridges and creeks, views and fresh air, horse studs and out of the way wineries with freshness and a palette to die for, then Yarawa, Martindale, Sandy Hollow, Wybong and Denman are the better places to visit. Wybong in particular with places like Yarraman Estate, Wybong Creek, Callatoota Estate and natural features like 'Anvil Hill' and 'The Book', 'CastleRock', 'Wallaby Rocks', the Manobalai Cliffs, Myambat Reserve and closer to Denman, Two Rivers and Arrowfield wineries, Woodlands and Coolmore Studs, Wollemi and Golburn River National Parks. As for Muswellbrook itself - nothing to see except coal dust, nothing to smell except sulpher and nitrous dioxide, nothing to hear except coal trains, draglines, blasting, highway traffic and sirens and nothing to do except make sure you lock the car or it could well be gone. Forget Muswellbrook. Go 30m west and have a real Upper Hunter experience around Denman - before its all gone with the construction of the 3,000 hectare Anvil Hill Open Cut Coal Mine."
