The Tathra Cottage property was once dairy country but since the cows have gone and the privet, lantana and blackberry have been cleared, the original rainforest is regenerating. The cottage is now surrounded by both native and exotic trees and shrubs with a very active bird population.
The dam below the cottage is home to hundreds of frogs, dozens of wild ducks which fly in at dawn, and a resident turtle which floats in the middle of the water on the hottest of days.
Echidnas bumble about during the day and at night wombats explore around the house, invariably leaving their spoor on the top of rocks or logs.
Weekend tariff applies to a Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday booking.
There is a minimum three night booking over Public holiday weekends and a minimum four night booking over Easter.
A one night booking is accepted midweek (Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs) . The tariff is $225.
Private and quiet
The design of Tathra Cottage took its inspiration from Arthur Boyd's Music Room at Bundanon on the Shoalhaven, 40 minutes south through Cambewarra. The vertical timber lining boards and high ceilings create a sense of space, reinforced by the views to the outside. French doors open to the verandas.
The cottage is fully self contained, comfortably furnished and complemented with fine linen and towels. The setting is very private and, because the property is up the end of a closed valley, there is no traffic. One falls asleep listening to the croaking of frogs and wakes to the calls of the birds.
Fresh linen and towels, video and sound system are provided.
Easy access to the south coast and the southern highlands.
If Tathra Cottage is booked please look at The Old Barn which may be available and is also featured on Stayz. The cottages are quite separate and you are assured of your privacy.

We had a truly relaxing and memorable time at Tathra Cottage.
The cottage itself is picture perfect as are its environs.
It is furnished with style and the whole interior is delightful.
The 360 degree verandah provides such beautiful aspects across the surrounding hills and the sound of birds including the kookaburra is delightful.
Annie, our host was discreet, informative and herself very stylish.
We will return to experience more of this beautiful place as there is so much to do and enjoy around the cottage and the nearby towns and beaches.

Lovely cottage among the trees
Only five minutes away from Berry village, this character-filled studio cottage is nestled among the trees in the picturesque environs of Bundewallah. It is fully self-contained, with a small country kitchen, double bed and wrap-around verandah. There is no air-conditioning, but it does have ceiling and table fans. (There is also an open fire for the winter months.) It is surrounded by vibrant bird life in the day (binoculars are provided!) and soothing cricket sounds at night. The owner is friendly and responds promptly to questions and requests. A small selection of CDs, DVDs and games are provided, but you won't need them. You'll be walking down the narrow, pretty roads and taking in the scenery. There'll be stunning hills and blue skies, as well as sightings of cows, horses, alpacas and ducks. We even saw fireflies at night. If you want to enjoy a bit of noise and bustle, Berry is close by with its wonderful cafes, restaurants and pubs. Overall, it was a comfortable and tranquil stay in a traditional country cottage. Recommended.

Tathra Cottage is located high up a valley amongst mature trees. Its location is idyllic. The cottage itself is well designed with verandas and lots of windows and doors so guests see out into the forest from all directions. Like other guests we thoroughly enjoyed our stay but thought with some minor improvements our stay could have better. The double bed was too short which meant my feet were hard up against the bed-end each night and we thought more fly wires would have allowed better air flow on the humid days/nights. The couch has a broken spring. Outside, the deck and steps were very slippery given the wet and humid weather we experienced.
