The Tathra Cottage property was once dairy country but since the cows have gone and the privet, lantana and blackberry have been cleared, the original rainforest is regenerating. The cottage is now surrounded by both native and exotic trees and shrubs with a very active bird population.

The dam below the cottage is home to hundreds of frogs, dozens of wild ducks which fly in at dawn, and a resident tortoise which floats in the middle of the water on the hottest of days.

Echidnas bumble about during the day and at night wombats explore around the house, invariably leaving their spoor on the top of rocks or logs.

Private and quiet

The design of Tathra Cottage took its inspiration from Arthur Boyd's Music Room at Bundanon on the Shoalhaven, 40 minutes south through Cambewarra. The vertical timber lining boards and high ceilings create a sense of space, reinforced by the views to the outside. French doors open to the verandas. There is a wood fire to keep you warm during winter.

The cottage is fully self contained, comfortably furnished and complemented with fine linen and towels. The setting is very private and, because the property is up the end of a closed valley, there is no traffic. One falls asleep listening to the croaking of frogs and wakes to the calls of the birds.

Fresh linen and towels, video and sound system are provided.

Easy access to the south coast and the southern highlands.

If Tathra Cottage is booked please look at The Old Barn which may be available and is also featured on Ozstays.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous Property A lovely stay. The cottage is charming, well-kept & tranquil. Tucked away at the foot of the hills with a view of the ocean, the cottage is well protected from hot weather but a lovely breeze permeates through the trees. We fell asleep listening to frogs, and woke up well rested and were visited by several ducks who live in the adjacent pond. One of the best weekends away that I've had. We met the property manager, Anne, briefly. A very charming lady. I would like to return!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent, well appointed retreat with lots of character for a relaxing stay in Berry. We stayed 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the local beaches, restaurants and overall ambience of the area. Very private location and delightfully peaceful if you are seeking an escape from the pressures of daily life! Highly recommended as a wonderful getaway for a couple!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Annie keeps a beautiful cottage, it was immaculate, peaceful and a great option for a quiet stay only a few hours outside of Sydney. Its a couples option and you can enjoy the sounds and tranquility of the bush and still be within striking distance of Berry, Kangaroo Valley, 7 Mile Beach etc. I would recommend if you want a quiet retreat for a few days or more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We just returned for our second visit to Tathra Cottage after sending several of our friends along. It's a beautiful and comfortable home away from home in an absolutely idyllic spot. We'll definitely come back again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such a lovely little cottage in a wonderful spot! About ten minutes out of Berry, but a long way from manicured lawns. The kitchen is well equipped, the bed is comfortable, the verandah is a fantastic place to sit and watch the birds or stars, to read a book or get lost in your own thoughts. A perfect place to connect with the bush, without feeling stranded in the middle of it. We ate dinner in Berry our first night and drove over to Gerroa and Seven Mile Beach the next day, both were low stress leisurely excursions. After we checked out of Tathra Cottage we drove over to Kangaroo Valley, and I was surprised to find I was pining quite a bit for Bundewallah! Absolutely recommended, I fully intend to spend more weekends there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We had a wonderful stay, perfect for a weekend for two. Far enough away to feel isolated but still within minutes to Berry. Highly recommended.
