The Barn began life on the banks of the Shoalhaven River. It was built to house feed and stores for a small dairy holding in the early days of south coast settlement. When we discovered it, while visiting friends on a neighbouring property, it was looking in need of a fresh start and so, we dismantled it, put it on the back of a truck and brought it to our property on the outskirts of Berry.
We rebuilt it and we installed a galley kitchen and bathroom, replaced the plumbing and wiring, replaced some of the jarrah cladding and the entire roof, ran a veranda around it, and lavished it with paint internally.

A beautiful, calm, natural setting.
The Barn sits high on the property at the end of a no through road, surrounded by trees, looking down the valley over vineyards, grazing land and forest all the way to the ocean at Seven Mile Beach, 10 kilometres away.
The site was once covered in lantana and privet but selective clearing and weeding has led to amazing natural rainforest regeneration of red, white and pencil cedars, koda, pittosporums, cleradendrons and whalebones for example. The bird life is prolific. It is a very private and peaceful hideaway just 5 minutes up the valley from Berry.
Easy access to South Coast/Highlands' highlights.
If The Old Barn is booked please look at Tathra Cottage which may be available and is also featured on Stayz. The cottages are quite separate and you are assured of your privacy.

A lovely little cottage
Set amongst picture perfect scenery the cottage is a sweet and quaint property for a quiet and private getaway. Very clean, basic but everything you need for a couple of days...maybe take a few CD's and DVD's if you like a little entertainment

Total Peace and quiet
Perfect place to unwind yet still be close to Berry township, 5 mins by car, or the beach, an easy 10 min drive.

first "settles" experience !
It is not easy to forget and forgive a lack of an air conditioner, when it's 36 degrees inside this uninsulated shed with a plastic roof, which leaks when it rains.... But the deformed mattress completely ruined our 6 night stay. We left one day earlier in a complete disappointment. The kitchenette was not equipped for cooking anything more complex than a boiled egg. The clothing shelves were broken and there was no chance to wash or dry clothes. We think the fee does not match the level of comfort and all pretty pictures and cute items do not offset the lack of care about guests. Usually a host supplies at least a free local map and information about local attractions and activities available in the area. Overall, it's not suitable for a stay longer than 1 night. We liked the location and beautiful surroundings.

WHAT A GEM!
Our stay at The Old Barn was truly enjoyable. Annie manages the whole process with a minimum of fuss but was always prompt in her responses to our few questions before we arrived. The Old Barn itself is magic - with all the essentials and with nothing superfluous. This includes the great sense of style Annie has brought to furnishing, decorating and provisioning. Great surrounding attractions, shopping (and more) available in Berry and the luxury of long walks along Seven Mile Beach all within short range makes this a perfect getaway, if you can pull yourself away from the peace and calm of the Old Barn itself.
