Location and Surrounds

Dungowan was designed so that you don't need to leave.

Unlike other offerings, Dungowan is a purposely designed Vacation Home. It is not home to an owner and you will have the entire farm to yourself (with the exception of staff and caretakers from time to time).

As guests of this very special escape you are encouraged to relax, unwind and maybe take in a few gentle walks around the property. However should you wish to take in the sights of the area, there are four rivers in the district, The Corang, The Endrick, Mongarlowe and Shoalhaven River. The historic town of Braidwood is 40kms away and is a great place to stock up on supplies. The south coast beaches & Jervis Bay are also a good option for a day trip.

Morton National Park (Wog Wog entrance) is a 10 minute drive. Walks to the mountain summits offer magnificent, panoramic views of the rugged cliffs and gorges of the Budawang Ranges.

You will need to allow at least one full day hiking to see some of the attractions, as they are deep in the national park. Dungowan is the perfect place to establish a base camp for those wishing to undertake a more in-depth exploration of the Morton National Park.

To the east are the two elongated plateaux of Byangee Walls and the Castle. Sandstone layers deposited by a shallow sea 250 million years ago, can be seen in the surrounding cliffs.

Theses mountains are situated at the south-east corner of the 162 000-ha Morton National Park, one of the state's largest. Containing a sizeable portion of the Southern Highlands, its features include rugged sandstone cliffs, deep, well-forested valleys, and the Clyde, Shoalhaven, Endrick, Corang, Mongarlowe and Kangaroo Rivers.

Due to its size, the park features a number of landforms, climatic circumstances and habitats - sedgeland, woodland, heath and rainforests. The transition from one to another can be quite dramatic. The landforms are also various and hence there is a diversity of flora and fauna. There are wildflowers in abundance on the plateaux, giant turpentine trees below the major cliffs, coachwood and black ash in abundance and true rainforest canopy where the soil is richest.

The national park (and Dungowan) has numerous birds, including hawks, wedge-tailed eagles, sea eagles, parrots, honeyeaters, black cockatoos, lorikeets, crimson rosellas, cuckoos, cormorants, grebes and lyrebirds.

Dog Friendly

Dogs love Dungowan. There is plenty of room to run around, seek out new smells, play, swim and be free.

At Dungowan, friendly house trained dogs are allowed, though it is requested that they do not enter carpeted areas or sit on any furniture.

There is abundant wildlife at Dungowan, with most being nocturnal. Dogs and wildlife do not mix. We ask that you be mindful of this and keep your dogs in control when wildlife or other animals (cattle) are about.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An absolutely beautiful property; not just the grounds, the house, the furnishing, but the genuine care, thought and generosity of the people involved in presenting and maintaining a house that exceeded beyond words my expectations. We stayed at Dungowan for three nights for my 50th, a weekend that our party of 20 will remember for a long, long time. The company was always going to be great but the surroundings, the barn, the boat house, garden, lawns and bush and attention to detail, wrapped us in its arms for a truly magical few days. I would highly recommend Dungowan - we are already planning another weekend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spacious and beautifully appointed with attention to all possible needs of guests, this was a fabulous place to spend a weekend with friends. Right from the welcoming meal, the table all set for a banquet and the divine cakes left for our pleasure, Dungowan embraced us with welcoming arms and one easily settled into the ambience of country life. 12 adults had plenty of room to read quietly or sit at one of a number of outdoor tables/ indoor living rooms to socialize with others. That each couple had their own bathroom is typical of the care taken to ensure the comfort of guests at Dungowan. Likewise, even when both dishwashers in the main house were running there was still plenty of crockery and cutlery to use. Bush walks, vegie garden and boathouse were an unexpected delight. Am looking forward to staying here again and would highly recommend Dungowan to those seeking a break from the madness of modern life.
