Description

We (two couples) stayed in this unique apartment for a week in August and found it to be a wonderful location for visiting Sydney. The bus line is 1/2 block away, the restaurants are awesome in Surry Hills, and the shopping is interesting. Loved Chee Soon & Fitzgerald for shopping and Kylie Kwong\'s Restaurant is worth the wait. This apartment was a great find and Lindy is wonderful.

We had a great stay in April and absolutely loved the location. The house was very large and I loved sitting out on the deck with my coffee and breakfast from Bourke Street Bakery (around the corner and not to be missed). The house was very clean, comfortable, safe, with friendly neighbors.
A unique experience and much better than a hotel! Alyse, New York City

We enjoyed our stay in Surry Hills tremendously. The house offers more space and facilities than any hotel room could, it\'s located in a very central, convenient and pleasant part of town with great public transport or the chance to walk. Great food and restaurants are close by, too.The flat itself is beautiful and very tastefully decorated, yet it has a \"lived in\" feeling to it which makes it very welcoming. We will definitely stay there again when coming back to Sydney.

This unusual and exotic house is opposite a park and comprises of two pavilions facing each other across an internal courtyard, which is canopied by a fifteen metre Chinese Tree of Heaven.

The front pavilion is a three story glass tower: the top floor containing a bedroom with a queen size bed(1000 Threadcount sheets) and television, the next level, a bathroom and second bedroom with a queen size bed (1000 Threadcount sheets). A spiral staircase leads down to the ground floor study, which contains a queen size sofa bed, tel/fax, scanner, copier, colour printer and wireless or ethernet broadband connection. The study opens into the courtyard.
A walkway crossing above the courtyard from the second level leads to a sundeck and the second pavilion. Stairs go down into an open living room and dining area with polished timber floors and a gas fireplace.

The fully appointed kitchen, laundry and toilet are adjacent to this space. The living area contains a stereo sound system, lcd television, ipod dock, dvd player and vcr and opens onto the internal courtyard which houses the gas barbeque.

The house is peaceful and filled with sunlight.

We loved the location of this accommodation. You are right in the heart of lively Crown St. yet you have sufficient distance to allow solitude. Restaurants, Art galleries and parks surround you and inside you have a thoughtfully appointed, unique and extremely comfortable abode. It is well situated in relation to the city centre and the bus stop is just a few steps away. We\'ll be back! D.King London

An Oasis in the Inner City is rated 4.55 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great property in a fantastic location! Location of this property is fantastic! We were about to walk EVERYWHERE or the bus stop was directly across the road. You are within walking distant to the Sydney cricket grounds, Central Station, the city centre, Darling Harbour and all the attractions that Sydney has to offer! The house was huge and the kids love the spiral staircase! The beds were incredibly comfortable and the roses of the bedside table were beautiful. The house was full of fresh flowers and a bowl of fruit which the kids really appreciated after a long day of travel. Linda was very friendly and there was a lovely welcome phone call to ensure that everything was fine on our arrival. The area has the most amazing restaurants, grocery and a gelato bar well worth lining up for!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing Experience This looked ideal for a family visiting for 8 days to celebrate a wedding! However we arrived to a quality far below the standard offered. A broken pipe had resulted in water oozing up through the floorboards in the kitchen and dining room and a terrible smell. Extensive renovations next door meant the light through the walkway was completed blocked and made the area gloomy. We were told a plumber would be there the next day at 7.30 am with a jack hammer to investigate the problem. The only place to wash after using the toilet downstairs was the kitchen sink. We had booked for 5 adults but the 3rd bed was not made up and the manager told us we would find linen in the office. That linen was not clean so we used other linen, even though it was stained and carrying the lipstick of previous guests. The roses left for us were brown with drooping heads. A plumber returned and connected hot water to the kitchen and made provision for waste water from the washing machine. We were unable to secure 3 external doors that evening including one that had no latching system at all. We informed the manager that we could not take liability for security, and she insisted that it could be made secure and hung up. We managed to secure one end of the apartment. We contacted the owner to explain our inconveniences. She replied to say sorry the pipe was broken and that her manager said all the beds were ready. The next morning we awoke to builders using power tools next door an hour before the legal time. We went out. 2 visits from a locksmith and 48 hours after our arrival the house was secured. We found a tarpaulin and laid it over the still oozing floor. On the third day a second plumber advised us that the pipe had been broken for a minimum of 3 weeks and the water bill would be high. We began to turn off the water when we were not using it to help the owner. We advised the owner of this on the fourth day of our stay and requested compensation. She replied that everything in Sydney was booked, she was unable to re accommodate us and apologised for the discomfort. Our request was not acknowledged. On day 6 of our stay a neighbour arrived to say he had 3 inches of water in his courtyard coming from the property and guests coming for lunch. We passed on the contact details we had. Coming from the hospitality and accommodation industries we were shocked how inadequately this unfortunate situation was dealt with and hope quality has been restored to this property. One week after our return to New Zealand the balance of our bond and partial compensation was deposited to our account. We had not received any communication from the owner during the preceding 10 days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our family of four recently holidayed in Sydney for a week and found the house to be perfectly located in a fabulous part of Surry Hills. The house was light filled and comfortable and had a wonderful ambience. The house was quirky and our kids absolutely loved it. There were heaps of fresh flowers and fruit on our arrival and after a long day out and about it was so nice to have the space and comfort to come home to. The Messina gelato bar across the road was a huge hit and there was an array of gourmet deli's and a supermarket within easy walking distance along with restaurants and the fabulous Clock Hotel. The owners instructions on what buses to catch and where to eat/find supermarkets was invaluable. I would highly recommend this property, the only downside was a bit of noise as people wander home but it really wouldn't stop us staying here again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My brother from Malaysia with family of 6 visiting during last December, for months Ive been searching for an ideal location that its near to Sydney CBD with public transport. Besides, I would like them to experience the real Aussie lifestyles in the city. The bus stop is only 30 steps from the house, besides its located right at the most happening streets at Surry Hills with all the most trendy restaurant, a park, most beautiful library, convenient shops, laundry shop right across the streets. Real strategic location! The house is so fun, it got a garden and big tree at the centre of the house! The facilities in the house are complete! The kitchen is complete with all type of utensils, BBQ grill in the garden, washing machine with dryer, outdoor dining on the 1st floorthe bedrooms are cosy and beautiful! Its a great stay for the family in Sydney, besides its real kind that the owner provide us with real clean, white and fluffy towel, a bowl of real fruits and a bouquet of Lily on the dining table. Would definitely recommend to anyone, besides its value for money!
