When we went to Katherine Gorge we booked onto a boat cruise which took us up the first 3 gorges. It was a revelation to see the Aboriginal rock art as you go by. ) . We also had a good time at Edith Falls, enjoying the clear and cold water in the heat of the day. We saw some crocs and small kangaroos which was exciting for our overseas companions. It was worth the long trip to get there.

Nitmiluk National Park (you probably know it as Katherine Gorge). We flew over the gorge (13 gorges in the system) first to get an overview. Then we booked onto a boat trip up the first 3 gorges. You go as far as you can, till you hit a waterfall, then get out, walk round the fall and get on the boat in the next gorge etc.
See Aboriginal rock art on some of the walls as you go
by.

The fresh water crocodiles were nesting late (indicating they were expecting a late wet season) and the swallows were nesting early - who is right? There were bushfires happening, so we couldn\'t do any of the walks. Edith Falls is on the other side of the park - at the bottom is a
lovely large, clear, cool lake surrounded by a huge rock caldren and the falls. You can walk about 1k to another intimate rock lake above the falls - this was absolutely gorgeous and a must see if you are in the area - lovely spot to swim. Another 8k walk takes you to yet another lake.

Gorgeous untouched area, crocodiles can be seen on the tours of the wild - depending on the wet or dry season.
