Pictures can be deceiving
We recently stayed at this house and it is in desperate need of some TLC. For a start the sofas in the living area are literally disintegrating. The leather on them is patchy and revolting. We used a spare doona to sit on because we didn't want to sit on them! As far as cleanliness inside the house goes, it was fine. The spa was disgusting - it has an oily residue across the surface and the water was dirty. We decided not to use it. The bunk beds in the kids room are unsafe and extremely wobbly so we didn't use those out of concern of the safety of our child. A major issue for us being a family with small children was the lack of proper curtains. All of them are sheers which keep out absolutely no light whatsoever so we were all awake at 4am when the sun came up! Not exactly conducive to a relaxing time away from home. Some of the windows don't shut properly and it felt like it would be extremely easy to break-in, so every time we left the house we took all our cameras, laptops, iPads etc etc with us because it wasn't safe to leave them there. I don't think the owners of this house have ever actually spent any time in this house, otherwise they would experience all these flaws first-hand and probably do something about it. I would never come back or recommend for anyone to stay here.

We stayed at this cottage for the first week of our 2 week holiday to QLD. We wanted to stay on the Gold Coast so we could take our kids to all of the theme parks. This property looked perfect in the photos and we were looking forward to staying there.
When we arrived we were very disappointed. The owners have obviously had noise complaints regarding previous guests, so they have put up notices warning about keeping the noise down, the neighbours, the neighbours....unfortunately with so much emphasis placed on it, it put us on eggshells and we spent the whole time telling our kids to be quiet. 3 kids aged 4-8yrs. All they were doing was having fun but we were so worried about the neighbours complaining we couldn't relax at all. The kids hardly used the spa because of this and we didn't use it at all.
We found the BBQ was filthy covered in fat and the remains of the last meal that was cooked there.
The bathroom has no powerpoint so i had to use my hairdryer in the bedroom.
The shower has terrible water pressure. It is barely more than a dribble.
The linen is old and musty, didn't feel at all fresh.
The bunk beds are literally falling apart. They are very wobbly and a couple of the bars have actually come apart. I would not allow my kids to sleep on the top bunks so it was fortunate we had a spare bedroom. Don't plan on sleeping 4 people in the bunk beds, because they don't appear to be very safe.
These things would have been more acceptable if we hadn't paid a high price for this accommodation. Family members stayed in nearby apartment complexes and resorts at the same time for less than half the price and much nicer facilities. This property is way overpriced for the condition it is in.

We had a wonderful, relaxing girls weekend for 3 nights. The house provided us with plenty of space and the spa was amazing. Our dogs were welcomed and were secure in the back yard. Likely to stay again!

Excellent find....what a gem!
My family and I stayed for a week at the charming and cosy Mermaid Beach Cottage and what an excellent find it was. Perfect location so close to the funky cafes and shops at Nobby Beach, that serve excellent coffee, great meals and quirky little stores within a village setting. The cottage itself was fantastic, clean, comfortable and had everything we needed and expected from a beach house. The bi-fold doors of the kitchen and dining area opened up onto a huge deck running the length of the house, lovely big outdoor seating area and BBQ. We really enjoyed the fully private and secure leafy back garden, and the outdoor spa and hammock on the Balinese style cabana were perfect for idling away lazy afternoons. The bedrooms were a great size, with lovely crisp clean bed linen and fluffy bath towels. The owners were very welcoming and hospitable, and nothing was ever a problem for them. Overall the Mermaid Beach Cottage exceeded our expectations, was fantastic value for money and we will definitely be back for our next stay on the Gold Coast!

The owner is lovely, but the property is in need of a LOT of love. The cleaner needs the sack, went to use the mop,and it was unusable, the vacuum hadn't been emptied for a very long time. There is no light for the back steps.and NO hot water in the inside shower.the location is great, just a littl let down by the photos.
