    Horse riding at Horseshoe Bay

One activity that must be tried at Horseshoe Bay is horse riding. Head on down to Gifford Street and you will find Bluey’s Bush and Beach Rides. Held twice a day for a couple of hours they take you through the bush until you reach the beach. Once you reach the beach you can dismount, undress and have your horse de-saddled and then ride bareback onto the beach, and yes into the sea! The horses love swimming, and the experience of riding bareback along the beach and then swimming on horseback is awesome! To do the ride you need to wear your swimming gear under your riding gear and it is also a good idea to have a friend meet you at the beach with a towel and a camera. The Blueys Bush and Beach Ride is suitable for both experienced and novel riders and the girls organising the ride will ask you whether you want to walk, trot or canter along the beach and match you up with a suitable horse. The ride starts at 9am and 3pm each day and people are advised to arrive half an hour before the ride. For more information contact Blueys on (07) 47 785 109

    World War II Forts

If you enjoy bush walking, Magnetic Island has 36 km network of walking tracks that provide opportunities to see the wildlife in its natural environment and also enjoy the many spectacular views from several lookouts. This walk starts from the junction of Horseshoe Bay Road and Radical Bay Road, diverging from the start of the Arthur Bay road, is a track which takes you along a ridge behind the bays to “The Forts”. This 2 km walk takes you back in time to World War II, where a series of concrete gun emplacements and observation posts were built during World War II to protect Townsville in the event of a Japanese invasion. These posts offer panoramic views of the bays below and all the way from Townsville in the south over Cleveland Bay to Palm Island to the north over Horseshoe Bay and the Coral Sea. Looking east over Arthur and Florence Bays and the Coral Sea is Cape Cleveland and Bowling Green Bay National Park.
