Airlie Beach Weddings
It is hard to find a more picture perfect backdrop for a wedding than the Whitsundays. Airlie Beach has the region's most extensive range of venues, spaces and places for each component of your wedding - from the proposal, to the Hen's and Buck's parties, the ceremony itself, the reception and the honeymoon. This is certainly a place where you'll NEED a wedding week!
Being the gateway to the beautiful Whitsunday Islands, and heart of the Great Barrier Reef, Airlie Beach is the ideal romantic getaway for the lead up to your wedding, and for your guests to have a romantic trip away too.
Surrounded by blue skies and blue water the magic of the coast provides as much choice and diversity as you can imagine. There’s accommodation in romantic bed and breakfasts, hotels, motels or five star apartments. Choose your pace with the option of relaxing by the pool or enjoying the thrill of a tandem skydive. Why not try ocean rafting at high speeds, or for the more timid perhaps sailing peacefully on the Whitsundays famous turquoise waters is more your pace.
Airlie Beach has in recent years emerged as a fierce competitor to the islands as a wedding and honeymoon destination as it is the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands, the Great Barrier Reef, day and overnight sailing trips, as well as all the attractions available on and around the Whitsunday Coast.
There are top class romantic getaways in luxurious suites right on the doorstep of the coral sea. There’s also well appointed Mediterranean style apartments with unbelievable views and a huge selection of the more traditional hotel / motel style accommodation. Perched on the edge of the Coral Sea with views across Pioneer Bay and the Whitsunday Passage, Airlie Beach is a refreshingly cosmopolitan town which has maintained its village atmosphere. The main street provides a lively atmosphere with cafes, bars and restaurants spilling onto the sidewalks.
During the day the excitement revolves around the beaches and marina. This is the best time to experience the secluded beaches along the coastline or head north for excellent fishing at secluded Earlando and Dingo Beaches, and Hydeaway Bay. The day trips are endless, there’s just so much to choose from so one of the hardest decisions you’ll have to make when you arrive here is which trip to take - the Great Barrier Reef (with scenic flights over heart reef), Sailing, Cruising, Fishing, Diving, Rainforest Walks, Ocean Rafting, Champagne Sunset Cruises, Whitehaven Beach or Whale Watching - this really is the world’s greatest aquatic playground.
Transfers are available to the Island resorts from Shute Harbour, just 12km from Airlie Beach, or from the centre of town at Abell Point Marina and leave approximately every hour. The islands are just 15 - 30 minutes away so make sure you take a day trip. If you're running out of time, or want to try something new then climb aboard a helicopter or seaplane for an exciting scenic flight, outer reef adventure, island transfer, or your own picnic getaway to a secluded island.
For those that prefer not to wonder to far there’s still freedom and endless opportunities in Airlie Beach itself. Go bushwalking through one of the oldest surviving rainforests in the world, there’s water sports, parasailing, sea kayaking, tandem skydiving, or you can choose to simply relax and enjoy the majestic views. Pack a picnic lunch and head into the beautiful Conway Range National Park where you won’t be disappointed with the fabulous views, and friendly wildlife. Or there’s Cedar Creek Falls, set in a natural rock amphitheatre it creates a swimming hole, just perfect for cooling off on a warm, summer’s day.
In the evenings you have the choice of top restaurants, cafes, bars and nightclubs to keep you entertained all night long. From alfresco style dining to silver service you will not be disappointed. Or for those who prefer to dine in a more intimate manner, why not order room service, and sit on your balcony enjoying the evening stars.
And if you're not exhausted from the lead up to your wedding, there's even more ideas listed below to make your special day in the Whitsundays amazing!
