    Cockle Train

The famous SteamRanger 'Cockle Train' runs along the south coast beaches directly through the sandhills between Victor Harbor and Goolwa, about an hour's drive south of Adelaide. The train makes the round trip of 40 km being hauled by vintage steam locomotives. One of the highlights along the route is the stretch of track that follows the beach and offers views over the Southern Ocean. The South Australian Division of the Australian Railway Historical Society is a non-profit organization which runs the Cockle Train, so all the maintenance and operating staff are train loving volunteers. The Society is dedicated to the preservation of South Australia's Railway heritage. The Cockle Train runs on weekends and most school holidays. Return tickets cost $14 per adult and $7 per child. For information: To confirm train running times on the day call either Victor Harbor Station on 08 8552 2782 or Goolwa Station on 08 8555 2691. At other times call 1300 655 991 or South Australia Travel Centre 1 800 805 153
