Great country town with heaps to do and plenty to eat. It\'s main stay is it\'s home of the Eureka Stockade and Sovereign Hill old mining town theme park. I couldn\'t get over the amount of police with radar guns along the highway in. Worth a look if you are doing the country Victoria route.

Ballarat is North West of Melbourne and is situated in the highlands, famous for the 1800s gold rush, the city went through a massive expansion. An historical city retaining a lot of its early Victorian architecture and still operating gold mines including Soverien Hill.

A wonderful place to stay. You have to visit Sovereign Hill if you come to Ballarat during the day and at night for the Blood On The Southern Cross Light show. What an awesome experience. It was freezing cold here in winter time. So make sure you take a beanie, gloves and a scarf.

Sovreign Hill, the Begonia Festival and the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery make this a good place to break a journey- suprisingly fine coffee shops and eating places. Give it a try.

I had a great time. There was a house, I think it was called the curiosity shop, I would recommend a visit there and to Soveriegn Hill a great day out. I had a wonderful time panning for gold.

A great place to visit. Beautiful Victorian buildings in town, Sovereign Hill, which is a great day out. Don\'t miss the evening show about Eureka, it is very well done. More here in Ballarat than I had expected.

Ballarat is great country town. It\'s a fantastic base to the western district of Victoria.

Ballarat is home to the Eureka Stockade which happened in 1854. Goldminers revolted against police and the state. The Eureka Flag still flys today. In Ballarat they have built a modern centre documenting the Eureka Stockade. Well worth visiting. Ballarat is a regional city. It is also home to Sovereign Hill which is a old gold mine. You can even try a little gold panning. I must warn you if visiting Ballarat in the winter do take a very warm coat. The wind are bitter.

DAWN - November 2006
Ballarat is a nice country town and good for a day trip as it\'s not too far from Melbourne. The Botanic Gardens are really lovely and their annual Begonia Festival is well worth a visit. Unfortunately Lake Wendouree is completely dry at present - it\'s usually a lovely attraction. And, of course, there\'s Sovereign Hill - a great place to visit for both young and old

A sleepy little town you\'d expect it to be, but Ballarat is actually quite cool, with enough hip restaurants and bars to fill a weekend away. Sovereign Hill the historic gold mining town/museum/ is surprisingly fun and interesting. Skip the nighttime laser-light show, only good for kids, or a laugh if over 12.
