Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wintery bliss! Our stay at The Oakes was nothing short of perfect! We had a mere two nights at the property, and could easily have stayed longer. We'll definitely be back. The house was located in an idyllic country setting. The garden was lovely, and fenced, so nice and safe for kids to roam around in without worrying about them wandering on the road. Highlights for our kids were the ducks in the garden next door, the donkeys over the road, the bird feeder just outside the kitchen window, and the kangaroos hopping around the place. Highlights for the grown ups were lots of towels, comfy beds, a well stocked kitchen (no need to run to the shops if you didn't remember to bring olive oil or butter with you on your holiday!), lots of comfortable places to sit, and plenty for kids (and grown ups) to do in bad weather. Oh, and I mustn't forget to mention the cleanliness of the place! It was spotless! The provision of a port-a-cot with plenty of bedding made packing for the trip much easier, and was much appreciated. We are already planning our next Maldon adventure. We were there with three kids (6, 3 and 7 months). We think it would be best to return before our youngest is at the crawling and 'into stuff' phase as there was a large number of decorative items that would have to be relocated for the duration. A gem of a place to stay, couldn't recommend it highly enough!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Stay The Oakes was a fabulous place to stay for 2 weeks. Chris and Tracey were extremely accommodating and the house was so homey and it had everything we needed to feel comfortable and content. I would definitely recommend staying here if you're going to visit Maldon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent cottage Such a delightful, beautifully furnished and decorated cottage set amongst beautiful gardens. Fabulous views, intriguing pieces of of garden art, parrots and wrens darting throughout the garden. Fresh flowers in all the rooms, fresh eggs (with compliments from Tracey and Chris's 'girls')were in the fridge, and a chocolate in the bedroom. Everything you could possibly need has been thought of for your stay. We enjoyed a comfortable and relaxing stay and we will be sure to return for another stay Thanks Tracey and Chris

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect writing retreat Coming to stay in a strange town is always a risk, but this cosy cottage has given us shelter and warmth, mountain views, parrots flashing by, scrabble, and fresh eggs from 'the girls next door.' At 'The Oakes', we laughed, relaxed and slept like babes. We wrote, walked and smelt the roses and fresh air. The bikes were slow, but useful to cycle to town...we found the saddle - but where is the horse? ! What more could we ask for? Is heaven this sweet? Thankyou Tracey & Chris This little house is bliss!
