Slow Dog House is a simple but delightful stone cottage consisting of a spacious living area with a queen size bed, ensuite bathroom, comfy lounges, and a separate kitchen and verandah. In the living / bedroom area there is a split system providing both heating and cooling. A mobile Dimplex oil heater warms the kitchen.
The interior of SDH is light and breezy, the linen is crisp and white, and it is surrounded by magnificent Eucalyptus trees in 20 acres of a tranquil bushland.
We provide generous supplies of local produce including eggs, yoghurt, muesli, milk, bread, butter, home made jams, honey, Vegemite, ground coffee, a range of teas, and fruit for you to make a self-catered breakfast. For a snack, there are dry biscuits, pate, cheese and drinks. Where possible, we try to offer locally sourced foodstuffs.
In the kitchen is a gas stove with oven and grill, and a micro-wave. As well there is a full range of cooking utensils as well as cutlery, crockery, glass ware and kitchen implements.
SDH is registered as a Wildlife Protected area and so unfortunately pets cannot be housed.
We are in the premier Margaret River wine precinct within walking distance or a few minutes drive of Cullen, Pierro, Gralyn and Vasse Felix wineries and the Cheeky Monkey Brewery. Alternatively you may prefer to stay put and enjoy the native birds and kangaroos.
SDH is approximately 6kms to the Cape to Cape walking track where closest to us is the Willyabrup coastline which has spectacular rocky coves, cliffs and idyllic bays.
Other distances are:
Perth 260 km / 3 hours+ (north)
Margaret River 25 km / 15 minutes (south)
Yallingup 19 km / 15 minutes (north)
Cowaramup 11 km / 10 minutes (east)
The benefits are that there is no public transport, the nearest supermarkets are in Margaret River, and there is a soothing silence in the night.
We deliberately leave our guests alone but of course we're available should any issues arise.
However, despite the above descriptions, perhaps the best recommendations of SDH are the comments of previous guests...

cosy cottage, very homely!
We had a great long weekend, very accessible to all the great wineries in the region. Cosy stay with the cutest attention to details, fresh flowers on the window sills, beautiful hamper in the fridge...Definitely recommend to any couple looking for a quiet spot to relax and sit back!

Slow Dog House is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for a comfortable, relaxing, secluded getaway in the magical Margaret River region. From the first friendly email we received confirming our booking, my partner and I knew we had made the right decision to stay at SDH. The accommodation is beautifully furnished, spacious, homely and comfortable, however it was the immaculate attention-to-detail that really made us fall in love with the place. From the fresh flowers in the bathroom and kitchen, to the fresh apples on the kitchen table, the quality and variety of breakfast foods provided, and handmade soap in the bathroom - we were provided with everything we needed to make our visit truly memorable. The kitchen is well stocked with all the utensils, cookware and crockery you need should you wish to cook a meal and make the most of the fresh produce in the area. And our host, Sam, was incredibly charming and helpful and made us feel like Slow Dog House was our home!
Slow Dog House sits in a beautiful bush setting behind Caves Road. The property is perfectly tranquil and about a 20 minute drive from Margaret River town centre - which was perfect for us as we were more interested in the wineries in Wilyabrup (Cullen, Vasse Felix, Ashbrook Estate and Knee Deep all relatively close by) and wanted to be out of the relative hustle and bustle of Margs itself.
We would come back to SDH in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone looking for a charming and idyllic trip to the Margaret River region.
