About this property

Kenwood Lodge a Luxury Vacation Rental ~ Blair Spangler The Collection

THE KENWOOD LODGE, 5 Bedrooms, 5 Baths, (Sleeps 12),

THE KENWOOD LODGE has just completed a total renovation to become the finest luxury villa at the true heart of the Sonoma Valley. Indoor ~ outdoor living at the heart of the Sonoma Valley, surrounded on 3 sides by the vast acreage of SugarLoaf State Park. On the Sonoma Valley floor, this 5-bedroom (each with ensuite bath) home places you minutes from world-famous wineries and all the area attractions. The endless walls of bi-folding glass truly disappear, eliminating the experiential line between indoors and out.

ONLY WE CAN PROMISE ACCESS TO THE INACCESSIBLE: Concierge services are free with every stay and are unmatched anywhere in this region. In business for over 20 years, we leverage our local knowledge and exclusive winery memberships to ensure our guests' unparalleled wines and wonders of the Northern California Wine Country. We can arrange the most recherché of the wine country exclusively for our guests: intimate events, dining or tastings at private cult winery estates, wine pairings with regional appetizers curated by our Michelin-starred chefs, wine education classes, cooking demonstrations, a gorgeous 3-mile hike right out our front door,  a hot air balloon ride early one morning, yoga or pilates class on the deck…. Ask us anything, we are happy to research and quote your dream vacation details.

NEVER BEFORE REALIZED GUEST SERVICES AVAILABLE AT A WINE COUNTRY RENTAL.  With a full-time staff of 12, we are unequaled. At any other vacation rental, you self-check-in and then are on your own for the duration - lucky if you can get someone to respond to a phone call for assistance if an appliance breaks. Not so with us: we have an ever-available team dedicated to guests’ needs. Caretakers and an I.T. expert on staff monitoring phones, texts, and our systems night and day. Guests can have any extent of bespoke services - via a la carte pricing.  We consistently exceed guests’ expectations because we are a singular, skilled group that designed, built, & operates every aspect.

OVERVIEW: The house is 4500 square feet with the grand room ceilings soaring to 20 feet, includes 5 bedrooms / 5 ensuite bathrooms, 2 fireplaces, chef's kitchen, wine bar with temperature-controlled refrigeration, media/game room, lap pool with waterfall, 8-person hot tub, stone fire-pit, bocce court, extensive outdoor lounging and dining areas.

LOCATION: The Lodge is situated just off the very center of the Sonoma Valley floor, at the mouth of a granite canyon that becomes Sugar Loaf State Park. The outdoor splendor merges with the indoors as endless windows bifold to open completely to the great outdoors. Secluded and picturesque, with views to the forested peaks of the surrounding state park, this estate is just minutes from the best wineries: Kenwood, Chateau St Jean, Landmark, and Kunde. Art Deco antiques abound with an informal 'feet up' level of comfort and ease throughout. Auto-start generator for seamless management of any rare power outage. The pool can be heated; fees apply. *Please note in the rainy season (typically November-March/April) outdoor cushions are stored.

HIGHLIGHTS: A memorable gathering place is the outdoor fire pit under a 150-foot tall fir tree with an adjacent 18-foot slab table. At sunset, the hills of the state park radiate an unforgettable russet, an amazing display of pastels fills the sky, a choir of songbirds heralds the setting sun, and the wine tastes even better... When outdoor temperatures drop, there is radiant heat (under the oak flooring) ensuring comfort in the high-ceilinged spaces. Idyllic in the summer, the house is uniquely fabulous in the winter, spring, and fall because of the great room and its massive fireplace. Even rainy, cool days are a delight with friends or family gathering in the 20-foot tall Great Room, with the fireplace at one end and cooking in the extensive professional kitchen at the other end. When the rainy season starts, the nearby creek swells and rushes by to the valley floor. It can sound like Niagara Falls is across the way; truly delightful. Art Deco antiques abound with an informal 'feet up' level of comfort and ease throughout.

CONSTRUCTED AS A GREEN FACILITY, the Lodge has been lovingly filled with reclaimed materials and the most efficient features. Stay here, and you will enjoy stand-alone luxury equal to any of the world-renowned 5-star hotels of this celebrated region.  Though It is ever-possible to get drunk on the region’s wine, our guests realize that it is equally unavoidable to get light-headed on the wonders of the land, the birdsong, and our 4-footed inhabitants that abound at our wine country estates.

Great House
The house was excellent. We stayed there with 5 couples to spend 4 nights and visit wineries throughout the area. We had Chef Kelly with us for 2 nights and the food was excellent. Nathaniel from DBL was our guide and driver for the wineries and we had a blast with him. The house had plenty of wine and food storage and the 5 bedrooms were perfect for the group. The main living area was a great place to hang out, drink some wine, watch Chef Kelly work his magic and listen to some music. We would absolutely stay here again.

Beautiful space surrounded by nature
I hosted an intimate women's retreat here, and I highly recommend this beautiful property. We were surrounded by gorgeous trees (with views of the trees from the living room), the house was spacious and lovingly decorated and the management was welcoming and easy to work with.

Great stay
Great stay in Kenwood. Overall the property was awesome, with just a few little things that were sub par. Beds were super comfy, pool was great, outdoor fire area was perfect. The shower heads could use a little love - the one in the primary bedroom was so big the arm couldn't hold it up no matter how hard I tried to secure it, so you had to squat down to wet your head. Water pressure was poor, but that's probably just how it is with well water. The well water was delicious though, right out of the tap. The all-white living room space was a little unnerving for wine country and kids, but we just tried to avoid it and hang outside mostly. Communication with the managers was excellent.

BLAIR SPANGLER DESIGN GROUP is an ensemble of creative individuals striving to provide life-changing experiences where guests can relax and explore the wonder of the Northern California Wine Country. Blair is an interior designer trained in both the US and France. Because her background is specifically in hospitality design, we think you will find we have done well to anticipate guests' needs as they come to the house for profound rest and relaxation - as well as to partake of the wonders of the Valley of The Moon. Let our concierge help you plan the idyllic trip to this amazing area with ever-changing things to seen do - and so much to learn about wine and various other agricultural products.

Why they chose this property

THE LODGE IN KENWOOD CA is located in the heart of the Sonoma Valley, also known as the Valley of the Moon; to Blair the most beautiful part of the Sonoma Valley. The coastal indigenous tribes of the area, Miwok, Pomo and Wintun peoples, referred to the "Valley of the Moon" in their legends. The phrase "Valley of the Moon" was first recorded in an 1850 report by General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo to the California Legislature. According to Jack London, who had a ranch here, the Native American word Sonoma means "valley of the moon." He used it for his book of the same name. But there are several other possible translations for Sonoma (see Sonoma County, California). According to the Miwok tribes that lived in the valley, and the Pomo, it meant "valley of the moon" or "many moons". White settlers may have accidentally translated the words "many moons" into "valley of moons". Miwok legends say that the moon seemingly rose from this valley, or was "nestled" in the valley, or may have even sprung up multiple times in one night!

What makes this property unique

This lot is located in a canyon, the only such geographical particulars of its type in Sonoma. The Canyon provides cool and shade in the relative extreme heat of the Sonoma summers. Everything is green and cool in the shelter of Adobe Canyon in the summer and fall while the Valley is burnt and arid, grass-less hills and dusty heat. Views are spectacular to the state park that surrounds this rural location. It is so dark at night you cannot see to walk without the moon and the stars which are huge and ever-so bright in this rural location. This one-of-a-kind structure affords a truly memorable gathering place for friends and family, close to nature and the soul of life.
