About this property

Cottage with Garden

Welcome to the Scott Street Yellow House in Gardiner, Montana. This charming, remodeled bungalow is perfect for a couple, with or without a small child. This historic home mirrors the rich history of the Yellowstone area. Located in the heart of Gardiner, only one mile from the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park and the historic Roosevelt Arch, this cottage began as a log cabin located in the rustic mining town of Jardine. It was moved down the mountain to 'Scott's Addition' on the east side of the Yellowstone River. As the town of Gardiner began to develop, so did the Scott Street Yellow House. It was lath and plastered and renovated in the Arts and Crafts style in the late 1920s reflecting the concern for craftsmanship and artistry of the period.

Remodeled in 2004 with vintage features intact, this one-bedroom home has a modern kitchen with wood floors throughout. There is a sunny reading room, dining room and luxurious claw-footed bathtub for calm contemplation and quiet relaxation. In the summer, the Scott Street Yellow House has the added treat of an airy gazebo poised to look out over a lovingly cared-for cottage garden.

Treat yourself to a peaceful retreat. In the center of a quiet town, the cottage is within easy walking distance to grocery store, restaurants, shopping, and recreational activities such as rafting and horseback riding, as well as the wonders of Yellowstone National Park. Make this your home base as you explore the majesty of Yellowstone.

Great location, great cottage!
Melanie thought of everything! This is a quaint cottage in the heart of town, walkable to nearly everything! It is only a few minutes from the north entrance of Yellowstone. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen extremely well stocked. I was looking for a plastic knife for our picnic and darn if she didn’t have plastic knives! Thanks for making our trip that much simpler….

A very nice cottage and great base for exploring Yellowstone
The cottage is very nice and perfectly located in Gardiner. It is equipped with everything you need and when you want to eat out it is a short walk to the market, restaurants and a cafe across the street for morning coffee and/or breakfast. It was a great base for exploring Yellowstone and we were able to explore many parts of the park from the thermal basins, the canyon, the lake and the wonderful Lamar Valley. Our only regret is we did not get to spend some more time relaxing at the cottage. Melanie was great and responsive and we would definitely stay here again!

Perfect Home Base for Yellowstone
This little house was perfect for my wife and I. just block’s from the North entrance to Yellowstone and Gardiner is the cutest town to stay in - it has everything you need. Don’t mind the elk family strolling through town 😂 The house has every thing you’d need for a short or long stay. Loved it!!

From 2002 through 2020, I spent in the Greater Yellowstone Area. Originally from Iowa, I ventured out West after high school to work in Yellowstone for the National Park Service. I was truly blessed to live, work, and have Yellowstone as by backyard to experience all the seasons of this magnificent place we call Yellowstone. In 2010 the stars aligned, and I met my husband who also had worked/lived for several years at Canyon Village in Yellowstone. We shared a fairy tale wedding overlooking the Lower Falls at Lookout Point on the North Rim of the Canyon. We were also very blessed to have 2 children while in Yellowstone both with park related names. Yellowstone is a very special place to our family, being very near and dear to our hearts. Enjoy your stay and make some memories in the magical place we call Yellowstone. Happy Trails.

Why they chose this property

Located at the North Gate to Yellowstone this is a perfect location to stay and experience Yellowstone. Gardiner is a very welcoming community with a variety of tourist activity in the summer, and a quiet close-knit community in the winter.

What makes this property unique

My house is like a retreat. Yet, I can enjoy the full compliment of vigorous seasonal activities available in Yellowstone National Park just minutes away. When I return on vacation, I enjoy the peacefulness of the house and its surrounding environment - and the splendid beauty of the garden in mid-summer. Gardiner is still a sleepy little town, especially in the fall, winter, and spring. I experience relaxation and adventure when I am there. My home is also a perfect home for a couple's romantic getaway, too!
