House in Newport Beach
The city of Newport is located just over 30 kilometres outside of Sydney, one of the most well-known cities in all of Australia. This destination is a true natural beauty, with its situation between the Pacific Ocean and Pittwater. The scenery in the town is unbeatable, and the laidback atmosphere makes Newport a great place to kick your feet up and relax. Additionally, with the close proximity to Sydney, busy bodies have plenty to do. When the day is over, there are a myriad of options available for rental. Whether you prefer an ocean-view apartment or a private cottage, Newport has something for you.
When travelling to Newport, you cannot leave without seeing Newport Beach. Each section of the beach has its own perks, and this means the whole family is more than welcome to test the waters. At the northern end, the rocky area right off the coast includes rough surf that is ideal for surfers. More toward the centre of the beach, the waters are somewhat calmer, which provides the ideal atmosphere for body boarders and experienced swimmers. The southern end of Newport Beach has a shallow flat rock pool that makes for a safe swimming environment for children. Playgrounds and barbecue facilities are found on the shore.
The Newport Arms Hotel is a landmark location within Newport, which was first established in 1880. Of course there are rooming options here; however, the hotel is best known for its amenities. With a great ambiance and even better views, the hotel's beer garden is something you simply must see. This is, in fact, the largest waterfront beer garden in all of Australia. The garden bistro and the hotel's award-winning modern Mediterranean restaurant provide a wide range of dining options. Kids keep busy on the two provided playgrounds. Make sure to visit the Newport Arms Hotel during a sporting event to cheer on your favorite team in the outdoor cinema.
Newport's downtown area is quaint, homey and provides much variety for visitors. On the second Saturday of every month, the Bert Payne Reserve hosts an outdoor artisans market. Clothing, goods and even surf gear can be found in the stalls, and the beachside location makes for a beautiful setting. While in town, pick up the supplies you need for a comfortable holiday from the local pharmacy or from one of the convenience stores. After you shop, enjoy lunch at one of the many restaurants that line the street. There are even delicious bakeries in which to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Because Newport has a prime coastal location, there is much to do just outside the town's perimeters. Head over to Pittwater Estuary for a day of fun on the water. This location is popular with yachters and sailors alike, which means that boat enthusiasts have plenty to look at. The estuary is also a popular destination for swimming and fishing. Venture a little further out of Newport to access all of the offerings of Sydney. Cannot-miss destinations in the city include the Sydney Opera House, Australian Museum and Royal Botanical Gardens, among others. For a day out in nature, head to one of the many reserves that surround Newport.
The most convenient way to access Newport is via Sydney-Kingsford Smith Airport. Once you have landed, hiring a car is the best way to get the most of your holiday experience, though public transit options are offered. A comfortable Mediterranean climate means that year-round travel is possible in Newport; in fact, by visiting in the off-season, you still enjoy plenty to do without the large crowds.
