Canberra is renowned for its nature reserves and we a lucky to have the Pinnacles reserve, with pleasant views to the Brindabellas, across the road and five minutes walk from the house. It is a very pleasant area to walk in early on a summer's morning when the kangaroos are grazing and the birds are about. In the winter months, a walk at midday is more pleasant on a sunny day. Other walks a short drive away are the Botanic Gardens and the Black Mountain walk.
A little further afield 50 minute drive is the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex that is "one of only three tracking facitlities in the world responsible for providing vital two-way radio contact with dozens of unmanned, robotic spacecraft exploring our Solar System and beyond. In the Visitor Centre, you will discover the story of Australia's role in the past, present and future of space exploration." Close by is the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve that is committed to conserving Australia's endangered species through breeding and maintaining insurance population. It works in conjunction with the Australian National University, Mulligan's Flat and ACT Government. For more information please visit their website - .
