Our little house is in the centre of Lithgow, a historic, neat and tidy country town. It's a getaway from Sydney and a perfect base to explore the Blue Mountains without the tourist hustle and bustle.
It has lots of history, unspoilt heritage architecture, industrial relics and eccentric events like the Halloween festival, Christmas Markets and Iron Fest the Steam Punk festival that should not be missed
We have recently painted, and polished our floorboards and are restoring our house back to its original features. We use the back door at the moment, until we renovate the front verandah.
We are across the road from the train line, but it is very sleepy. Very few trains pass each day and you probably won't even notice them. Tucked away behind Main Street, it is lovely and quiet.
We are right in the centre of town, 5 minutes walk from the station and close to parks, cafes, restaurants, pubs, shops, a pharmacy and the library. We don't even bother with a car a lot of the time as just about everything we need is in walking distance.
This is a country town experience - not a remote farmhouse one But everything is at your fingertips. We don't have Wifi.
We have a small TV in the living room and lots of old school games like scrabble, Checkers and chess to play on the shelves in the kids room.
If you come by car, you can park in our driveway. Entry to the house is via the back door to the building.
You get the use of all of the house, except the verandah which is awaiting renovation and is used as a storage area for the time being.
Please make yourself at home There are spices and some basics in the cupboard - feel free to use. The kitchen is basic, there is a stove, microwave, toaster and kettle, a food processor, coffee maker, cake mixer and a slow cooker for you to use.
The supermarket is only a 4 minute walk across the other side of Main Street and is generally open till 10pm.
There are places to eat and we particularly like the coffee shop 'Home town' and the Vietnamese restaurant on Main Street across the road from Hometown.
The beds will be made up and everything ready on your arrival. There is a gas heater in the living room only. Hold down the left hand of the three buttons on to to start it.
Although it's nice and warm in the summer, Lithgow can be chilly at night in the winter.
We provide an electric blanket on the double beds and hot water bottles for the room with 2 singles. There is a gas heater in the living room but there is no central heating, so you might need a jumper on winter evenings.
There is a train line to the Blue Mountains and buses to Orange and other country towns. We walk around town to get everything we need. It's a perfect place for cycling.
You may want a car to explore bushwalks off the beaten track.
The train fare from Central Station in Sydney is cheap and even cheaper on Sundays It takes about 3 hours and is on the Blue Mountains line. You can go into the Blue Mountains by train.
