The Cottage is a single level dwelling, with 3 entrance steps. A floor plan included in the Photo Gallery. Each of the 3 bedrooms has a Queen bed. The master bedroom is located in the northern wing, with its own bathroom and sitting/reading area, with views. It has complete privacy and can be quite separate from the rest of the Cottage.
The other two bedrooms are located at the opposite wing of the house, linked by a hall and share the second bathroom. In addition, a lounge/sofabed in the sunroom converts to a double bed.
Each bathroom has a raindrop/handheld showerhead and is heated. The second bathroom also has a bathtub.
The combined living and dining areas are in the centre of the Cottage and have access to the views. A chandelier shines above the dining table for six. At one end is a wall bookcase, comprising a book and DVD collection. There is a classic 1920s lounge suite for watching TV or gathering near the fireplace. Both the living/dining room and the sunroom have reverse cycle air-conditioning units. For the long winter nights though, the slow combustion fuel stove radiates warmth and provides cozy-comfort. We think it's better than air-conditioning and cleaner than an open fire.
Adjacent to the living room is a large sunroom which opens onto the deck and has two sitting areas, perfect for relaxing and gazing at the long views.
A lovely feature of the Cottage is the country style, eat-in kitchen with its black & white floor tiles. There is a cane table seating for 6 by the window which overlooks the garden.
It has a Belling induction stove, a Raycam fuel stove, dishwasher, microwave, crockery and cutlery for at least 8, plenty of dishes, kitchen equipment ricecooker, for example and cook books, should you feel inspired.
Just off the kitchen is the laundry which has a large front loader washing machine, dryer, ironing facilities and a drinks fridge. Outside is a wisteria covered pergola - a perfect place for breakfast with a view over the garden and view to the east.
The large deck off the sunroom is furnished with a large outdoor table and seating for 8+. Two deck chairs are available for relaxation and time in the sun. On clear days, you can see the city skyline. Watching the sun rise, or the evening turn to night with the twinkling of the city lights and the moon rising, is pretty special.
The gardens are old and well established and are said to be "Paul Sorensen-inspired".
The upper garden is bordered by a towering wall of closely-planted cypress pines, providing protection from the weather. It features a number of sitting areas, a large lawn area. The circular driveway is neatly defined by a brick border. At the centre is a herb garden of sage and thyme, surrounded by lavender and irises. There's also a large cottage-style garden, which features roses and is always changing. Two pathways lead to the middle and lower gardens. The middle garden is a level lawn bordered by azaleas and tree ferns.
A small water feature is tucked in under an old camelia tree, rhododendrons and tree ferns. Blue-coloured "treasure" collected by the resident Bower-birds lies under one of the many azaleas along one of the pathways. The lower garden is essentially a large sloping grass area with a giant liquid amber and borders the protected wetland and national park at the bottom of the property.
