Alpine Mists is a mountains home perched on the edge of the escarpment between the Lower Mountains Lapstone to Bullaburra and the Upper Mountains Wentworth Falls to Mount Victoria. The bush view over the National Park to the Sydney plain is spectacular. At night the blaze of the distant city lights is almost mystical.
Wentworth Falls village is just 5 minutes away featuring restaurants, a mini-market and quaint shops with collectables and memorabilia. Recommended is La Famiglia pizza & pasta. For family meals you cannot fault the old Grand View Hotel right on the Great Western Highway. Not just "pub-food" this old pub serves affordable but top rate nosh.
The main attractions of the upper mountains, Leura Mall with its shops and restaurants, Katoomba with Echo Point and the famous Three Sisters along with Scenic World Skyway and Scenic Railway are just 10 to 15 minutes drive. If you have an Opal Card, trains run regularly on the Blue Mountains Line, stopping at Wentworth Falls, Leura, Katoomba, Medlow Bath home of the Hydro Majestic Blackheath and Mount Victoria.
Alpine Mists spreads down the side of the hill over 5 levels with 5 separate bedrooms and 5 bathrooms plus 2 other common areas with additional beds.
The top level is parking and main entrance where 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms 2 en-suites and 1 main are located. Three rooms are 1 x Queen bed each and the fourth is a Twin Single. One flight down is the kitchen and dining & living area with views, views, views. A further flight to a large casual family room with TV and sound system and the 4th bathroom. There is a double sofa bed on this level, not private but great as extra sleeping for those larger groups. Another flight to a further communal area, another TV & lounge area and a further double sofa bed. A smaller shower room with WC the 5th bathroom and the laundry are located on this level. Finally at the lowest level is a large bedroom with 1 x Queen and 2 x single beds.
Alpine Mists is best suited to larger groups of singles or mixed couples and singles a few friends looking for a mountain getaway, multiple family groups 2 or 3 parent couples and all the kids, or an extended family group seeking a great venue to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. Children and small house trained pets are welcome.
BUSH WALKS AND ESCARPMENT VIEWS
Head back to the Great Western Highway, turn west and then left on Falls Road. Just behind the Bowling Club is Wilson Park and from here you can access Darwin's Walk along Jamison Creek to Queens Cascades and the top of Wentworth Falls. Alternatively follow Falls Road all the way south to Sir H Burrell Drive, a one way loop with access to parking areas. From here it is just a short walk to Queens Cascades and the top of Wentworth Falls or a slightly longer trail via Breakfast Point and Princess Rock lookouts.
For the more adventurous there are three longer walks along the escarpment: Overcliffe Track at the top, again via Breakfast Point and Princess Rock lookouts, National Pass along the half way ledge or Wentworth Pass along the valley floor. These can be accessed from both the eastern and the western end. [A] Western: Off Falls Road via Fletcher St to Valley of the Waters Picnic Area and the Conservation Hut restaurant; or [B] Eastern: down the cliff staircase at Wentworth Falls then west along either Pass. Best is probably a loop, access down stairs at Wentworth Falls, along either National or Wentworth Pass, climbing up past Britannia Falls, Flat Rock Falls, Lodore Falls, Sylvia Falls and Empress Falls to the Conservation Hut and back along Overcliffe Trail.
An interesting visit is Yester Grange a 19th century historic home now an art gallery and café. Fabulous Devonshire Teas with fresh baked scones, cream and berry conserve, YUM Yester Grange can be accessed either on foot from Darwin's Walk above Queens Cascades and the top of Wentworth Falls, or by road, east from Wentworth Falls village on Great Western Highway, right at Tablelands Road Wentworth Falls Pots and Garden Centre then right at Yester Road.
