Copacabana is about one hour drive north from Sydney with all the shops you need, such as mini market also has surf boards for hire, chemist, ice cream shop, bottle shop, news agency with post office, hair salon and try the wood fired pizzas from the new owners at "Sirocco".
Enjoy the short five minute walk to the surf of Copacabana Beach and Cochrane Lagoon, or the easy walk to the adjoining Macmasters Beach.
Copacabana Beach is patrolled from September through April school holidays with great surfing, fishing & snorkelling as well as a rock pool for children.
Get fit walking the hill to Copacabana lookout and read extracts from Captain Cook's logbook on his travels in the area. Watch the whales pass in whale "season" - June/July.
Need a nature fix? The area is surrounded by National Parks - stroll through trails to local beaches, view the ocean from high rock ledges.
By car, there is also lots to see along the coastline, for example, south to Kincumber, or have a coffee and see the Arboretum at Pearl Beach, or just visit some of the many tucked away bays.
The hourly ferry service from Ettalong or Wagstaff is bliss for when you need to get out of the sun. Brisbane Waters can also be explored by small ferries. It’s fun to catch the ferry to Palm Beach from Wagstaff and do a "gal's" spot of shopping.
For the golfers who experience withdrawal symptoms - Gosford and Woy Woy courses will solve the problem and the driving range at Kincumber will give you a quick fix.
Gosford Regional Gallery at West Gosford has great Japanese Gardens, a coffee shop and of course, a gallery and gift shop. Gallery 460 near Kincumber has a gallery and huge sculpture park definitely worth a visit.
The coffee shop at the Surf Club - Bar Copa serves excellent light meals, and there are many more only five to ten minutes drive at Avoca and Terrigal. Fisherman's Wharf at Woy Woy is good for seafood and pelican feeding times are worth watching.
You can catch a movie at Kincumber, Avoca and Erina Fair, with the restored Avoca Theatre an attraction by itself.
Finally, the Central Coast offers National Parks for walking, Brisbane Waters for boating, the Australian Reptile Park at Somersby, and the Wildlife Park at Calga.
