Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lovely spot, expected a little more for the price We had a pleasant stay, this house is in a beautiful location, with gorgeous views overlooking Hardy's Bay, its comfortable and well furnished, with comfy beds and nice bathrooms. But as mentioned in a previous review, for $700+ per night, the place could be a bit better maintained. There were cobwebs everywhere inside the house, I understand it is in the bush, but it wouldn't take much for a cleaner to clear some of these webs before new guests arrive, as it was the first thing we noticed upon arriving which was a bit off-putting. Fly screens wouldn't go astray as we often had the doors open to let some fresh air in (the house is not air-conditioned downstairs) so we had quite a few mosquitoes and even wasps come into the house. Also, air conditioning in all rooms would be great (only two are air-conditioned).

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Neglected. Dirty. Great position At $700+ per night you would expect the house to be clean and comfortable. We would have put up with the 52 stairs to climb up to the property if it had been well maintained. When we arrived, it was quite obvious that the house had been sadly neglected. There were cobwebs on most of the ceilings ( a large spider lived above one of the beds which we discovered next to the bedside one night), cat fir covered the rugs and cushions on the couches and most of the surfaces were dusty (recent coffee stains on the side table). The oven/cooktop was filthy and the microwave needed a proper wipe down. The musty smell pervaded the furniture and the rugs were very dirty. Every time we wiped down the dining room table the cloth would become black. Everything needed a good scrub. Most of the utensils in a poorly stocked kitchen were stained and all the kitchen/bedroom cupboards were musty and dirty. The laundry was filthy (sand and dirt on the benches) and the vaccuum cleaner was broken. Noone had ever cleaned out the filter from the dryer and there were no instructions on how to use the appliances, which we finally figured out. One of the bedrooms was not air conditioned and the fan did nothing to cool the room down during a very hot week. We could not sit in the lovely lounge to enjoy the view after about 12pm as there was no air conditioning downstairs and the sun was very oppressive through all the glass. Worst of all, we couldn't open the glass doors after 7pm to alleviate the heat as there are no flyscreens anywhere downstairs and the mosquitoes were abundant. Overall we were very disappointed at the condition of the property which needs a lot of maintenance to bring it up to the standard that it charges at.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Relaxing Retreat We thoroughly enjoyed a relaxed week at Sunset Retreat! The house is spacious and well designed, as it has lots of different areas to have some quiet time - read a book or just enjoy the beautiful view. It is well appointed with a barbecue on the deck and all modern cons. Beware of the many, many steps up to the property! Its wonderful once you re up there but my elderly parents struggled to climb up all the steep stairs. Also a pram would be very difficult. If you want to relax and do nothing - it's perfect spot! Take a day to explore the lovely area - as well.
