The Region Orange-Accommodation, Amenities and Ambience: Cool Summer Weather
Orange is 250 Kms west of Sydney and 286 Kms north/northeast of Canberra each about a 3.5 hour drive through the beautiful ‘Blue Mountains’ from Sydney and through rolling productive agricultural land and vibrant small towns from Canberra.
Orange is serviced by plane from Sydney 3 times each day and by rail and bus twice a day.
When in the Orange NSW region you will find over 40 vineyards and some 35 tasting rooms attached to vineyards or vignerons, within 15 K ms of the city, which are open most days supported by three in town tasting rooms, ‘ Cinabar’ belonging to Word of Mouth wines, ‘Ferment’ an modern wine bar which represents many vineyards and ‘The Union Bank’ which are open from about 10.00am to 9.00pm. The compendium in each apartment has further information and location of each vineyard.
Contrary to popular belief that anywhere west of Sydney and the NSW coast is hotter than the coast in Summer is wrong as the Bureau Of Meteorology of Australia’s statistics show. The stats below comparing Manly, Bankstown and Canberra to Orange for late Spring, Summer and early Autumn. show that Orange has a cooler mean maximum and minimum temperature than the coast and aligned suburbs for October, November, December, January, February and March.
The mean average temperatures for Manly, Orange,Bankstown and Canberra are:

This is because Orange is Australia’s highest large city above sea level at 890 metres (3215 ft. ) with Mt. Canobolas at 1397 metres (nearly 5,000 ft.) Orange snuggles into the foothills of Mt. Canobolas, the highest point due west of Sydney until you reach South Africa.
While Orange can experience a hot day of 37 plus we have never recorded a 40 degrees Celsius day and if you experience a day above 36 degrees Celsius we will give you an extra bottle of local white wine – cold and suggest that you pack a picnic tea and dine (with your cold bottle of wine) at the top of Mt. Canobolas which will be 5 -7 degrees Celsius cooler than in town and watch the lights of many of the towns of the Central West of NSW light up, including Orange and its environs.
There is also Lake Canobolas for water activities such as windsurfing, sailing, canoeing, swimming and walking along it tracks. The Lake has two sandy beaches and no rips or sharks, it is a pleasure park for water lovers. For the all year water lovers Orange’s Aquatic Centre has a heated indoor pool which is only a few hundred metres from A Colourcity Apartments.
(Don’t you love statistics!!!) and as previously mentioned there are no sharks in Lake Canobolas where you can enjoy sandy beaches and a swim in fresh cool water. ( That is a FACT)
Orange is blessed with three 18 hole golf courses. ‘Duntryleague’ an 18 hole championship course. ‘Wentworth’ which celebrates its 50th. birthday this year and the newer 18 hole Ex-Services golf course, bowling green and club house, with all, welcoming golfing and social visitors. Again, partly because of its Orange’s climate, the fairways, greens and course environs of all clubs are very professionally presented throughout the year.
