Catalina Lakefront Resort is right on the foreshore of beautiful Lake Macquarie, located near Newcastle and Toronto in the Hunter region NSW.

Beautiful aquatic playground

Great for water sports and outdoor adventures, Lake Macquarie is a beautiful aquatic playground less than two hours’ drive north of Sydney. Enjoy sailing, kayaking, and fishing, and spot dolphins, relax on gorgeous beaches and explore gorgeous national parks.

A perfect waterside escape, Lake Macquarie is Australia’s largest coastal saltwater lake and twice as big as Sydney Harbour. You’ll be thrilled with the many things to do and see, from water sports and bushwalking to delicious lakeside dining and the artworks of a great Australian artist.

Lakeside accommodation options suit a range of budgets. The beautiful holiday destination is between the Central Coast and Newcastle, on the NSW North Coast, and a great base for a day trip to the Hunter Valley, Australia’s oldest wine region – an hour’s drive northwest of Lake Macquarie.

You’ll find plenty of heritage-listed villages and charming towns around the lake, including Morisset and Toronto on the western side, Warners Bay in the northeast, and Belmont and Swansea on the eastern side. North of Warners Bay is Charlestown, the retail centre of the lake region.

Explore the spectacular coastline on the Coastal walking track in Wallarah National Park. Roll out your towel on soft sands and relax at Catherine Hill Bay, Caves, Blacksmiths or Redhead beaches. Exhilarating lake walks include the Awaba Bay Foreshore walk and the Wangi circuit walking track.

Fishing and boating are popular, with the lake teeming with bream, flathead and other species. Explore the waterway sailing or hire a kayak from Lake Mac Kayak and Bike Hire or JetBuzz Watersports, which also offers thrilling rides in a jet boat. For more outdoor adventure and spectacular views, jump from a plane more than 4 km above the lake with Skydive Newcastle.

For gentler pursuits, go cycling on off-road pathways and visit Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery for engaging collections, including a sculpture park and important Aboriginal artworks. You can also visit Dobell House, where famous Australian painter William Dobell lived and worked. Popular events in the region include Lakefest and Rathmines Catalina Festival, a celebration of flying boats.
