Our place has won an award for excellence in design
Located in a trendy neighborhood, yet on a very quiet street, this lovely multi-level terrace is perfectly positioned. Most consider it to be the best location of Newcastle. Each terrace on this street was built in the 1800s and represents a special time in Newcastle's history. Ours is renovated inside with modern fixings and is therefore very clean, and odor free. The whole place is very well ventilated and well maintained, making it the perfect place to relax, and take in the sea breeze. The street barely has any traffic. The neighborhood is extremely safe.
The kitchen has stainless steel and marble countertops, with hardwood floors, a very modern stove, and is equipped with a variety of things like a coffee maker, high powered blender, toaster, etc. It features a full-sized fridge and dine-in area for four with natural light. At your request, the dining area can be adjusted to seat 6. The kitchen opens out to a lovely courtyard..
The carpet in the main area is low-pile wool, which is hypoallergenic. There are many plants dispersed throughout the house. We also use all green cleaning products.
The living area features a big comfy lounge, which can also be turned into a single bed, plus a clean-burning fireplace.
The first bedroom has a large balcony, with a huge tree providing lovely shade in the summer. The room has a queen bed and closet.
The second bedroom overlooks the courtyard. It is large with high vaulted ceilings and lots of natural light. It has a queen mattress and closet area.
The third bedroom is the loft bedroom. This is an open-plan room with beautiful stained glass ceiling and roof-top ventilation. It has a double mattress and work desk.
The bathrooms are all white and mold-free. It is technically one bathroom, but split between two levels. One has a sink, shower, and washer/dryer. The other has a sink and toilet.
Guests have access to everything except the cellar, where the hosts keep some personal belongings. Access includes all appliances, all bedrooms, kitchen, bathrooms, loft, and courtyard. The courtyard is the only shared area with the hosts.
Interaction with guests
Hosts live in the guest house in the rear of the property. The entrance/exit is separate and you will likely not see us unless you need something. We are happy to help you with whatever you need.
A note from Sarah the host: I've lived and travelled to over 30 countries, and genuinely feel that this is one of the best neighborhoods in the world. It's rare to find such a peaceful place with so many things to do, both nature and city oriented. Plus, I've found people to be really friendly and kind here.
From our place you can walk to several beaches in minutes, with ideal waves for beginning surfers and flat sand that's great for beach runners. Starting with Nobby's beach, this is where the lighthouse stands. There are lovely sand dunes and a great walking area. Headed as if you're walking towards Sydney, you can walk along the shore, passing both quiet areas as well as a bar and more popular beach area. This brings you to Newcastle Baths, which is perfect for kids, anyone who enjoys lap-swimming, or if you simply want slightly warmer water with less waves. You can also take a direct route to these baths in minutes from the house. Next to the baths is Newcastle beach, another great beach that surfers love. To the north of us is a huge park called the Foreshore, where great events are held regularly. There are also so many places to enjoy coffee, international cuisine, brews, wine bars and more. Both the beautiful cathedral and synagogue are nearby, as are fitness facilities, yoga studios, shops, art galleries, and a print shop. The best and least expensive fruit is offered Wednesday-Saturday at Hunter Street Mall, which is a few minutes West. You do not need a car here
The bus station is literally within a 6 minute walk away, with buses to Sydney and all over Newcastle. There is also a ferry to Stockton nearby. There are rental bikes nearby as well. Bring your helmets and locks
