Description

The Petite Chalet is one of our exclusive and luxurious 5-star houses on offer. You will have access to a complete 3 bedroom home featuring ducted air conditioning, high quality linen, an outdoor living area and high speed Wi-Fi, Foxtel & Netflix on tap.

We are centrally located within the heart of Newcastle, having the vibrant shops and cafés of Darby St, beautiful parks and playgrounds, and several of Newcastle’s golden beaches within a short walking distance.

Cooks Hill Chalets is a French-Provincial style house combining modern and classic style furniture and artwork from all around the world.

There is plenty of space to relax with all 3 bedrooms featuring deluxe queen beds, all finished with 1200 thread count linen.

Sink into the plush leather lounge to enjoy your favourite DVD on the large LCD screen TV with surround sound, or catch up on world news and sport via Foxtel or Netflix.

You’ll love coming home from a long day at the beach and washing off in our outdoor hot & cold shower, and even using our fully equipped laundry which makes those long stays that little bit easier.

We will supply a high chair and baby cot upon request to make travels with those little ones stress free and enjoyable.

The Petite Chalet offers not just a place to sleep, but a total holiday destination which travellers of all ages will find hard to go past.

Guests will have access to a fully furnished 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom house located in central Newcastle. In the central living space, we offer a fully equipped kitchen with an island bench and breakfast bar, dining room and plush leather lounge.

Living around the corner from the property, I am fully available 24 hours a day for any issues that may arise. We are happy to offer early check-in and late check-out if there are no other guests leaving or arriving on the same day. We provide keys via a lock-box on the property itself, so there is no waiting around for someone to arrive to let you in, or having to go to an office to collect keys.

If you need anything else, I can be contacted by phone.

At Cooks Hill Chalets, we believe that the small touches turn a good place into a great one, which is why every guest is supplied with complimentary beach towels for those long days in the sun, umbrellas for when the sun disappears, slippers for hanging around in the house and vanity packs complete with toiletries, shower caps, sewing kits and shower puffs.

Our kitchen is fully equipped with the cooking essentials such as sauces and an array of spices, along with cookbooks for the aspiring MasterChef You can make fresh hot coffee in the morning using the Nespresso machine or wander up to Darby St for a selection of gourmet coffees and cakes.

For those lazy rainy or cold days spent inside, we have put aside a selection of DVDs, board games and cards to keep everyone in the family well entertained.

Finally, if the Petite Chalet is unavailable for the dates you wish to book, be sure to check out our other properties, the Grande Chalet and the Diamond Chalet.

Living on the same suburb as the Petite Chalet for over 24 years, I can honestly say the area is without equal. Cooks Hill is a heritage area, and the surrounding streets offer a wealth of restaurants, boutique shopping, health and beauty options, together with cultural choices for even the most discerning traveller.

The home is centrally located at 72 Laman St, Cooks Hill.

Walk on flat ground to the beach or the harbour foreshore, shop at world class boutiques, then enjoy dinner and Hunter Valley wines or beers at a local restaurant. Life doesn't get much better than that

Great Coffee

Little place on the corner of Corlette and Bull St called "Welsh Blacks", literally two blocks from the Chalet. I leave several maps at the property and would be happy to give you some guidance after you arrive. Otherwise, anywhere on Darby St sells good coffee, including "Glee Coffee Roasters" or Goldbergs.

Great Food/Atmosphere open early to late

"Goldbergs" hands down. Like a European cafe, great atmosphere and food.

Also, there is a great chocolate restaurant called Coco Monde on Darby St.

For smoothies to die for including Mars Bar, Cookies and Cream and other weird flavours, try "The Three Monkeys" on Darby St.

Grocery Shopping

Marketown shopping centre is only 750m away, containing Coles, Woolworths, Big W, Dick Smith, Officeworks and lots of little shops as well.

Boutique Shopping

There are many small boutique and designer shops along Darby St, with Jean Bas, HoneyBee goods and Carla Swimwear to name a few.

Larger Shopping Centres

Westfield Kotara David Jones and a huge number of other stores and also Charlestown Square Main store is Myer. Also has the Reading Cinemas

Cinemas

Rather than drive to Charlestown Square, you can walk to the Greater Union Cinemas in King St, less than a 10 minute walk away.

Great Walk

Check out the new "Anzac Walk" which runs up the cliff from Bar Beach to a lookout, beside Memorial Drive. For the more adventurous, the Glenrock Reserve, only 5km away, offers long walking tracks with beautiful scenery and animals.

Art Galleries & Museums

Take a short walk to the Newcastle Regional Art Gallery, Cooks Hill Galleries or John Earle Gallery, all within a 1km radius of the chalet. Take a walk to the harbour-side suburb of honeysuckle to visit Newcastle Museum or Newcastle Maritime Museum.

Hunter Valley

Take a wine tasting tour featuring delicious fine wines at the Hunter Valley winery, only a 45 minute drive away.

By rail, the Chalet is best accessed from Hamilton Railway Station, with buses connecting with each train directly to the Civic Station area. The home is then a short 3 block walk from the bus stop. It is also one block back from Darby St, where numerous the buses travel to surrounding suburbs, John Hunter Hospital, the CBD and the world-class beaches.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Luxury My two best friends (for more than 45 years) and I, choose a different location each year for a three night getaway to catch up as we live in different States. Newcastle was our destination this year as neither of us had been there before. Even though we saw what Cooks Hill Petite Chalet looked like on the internet, it didn't prepare us for this wonderful accommodation. It is beautifully decorated including all the fittings and there was nothing that wasn't provided, even umbrellas (although we were lucky to have perfect weather). The high quality shower goodies was such a lovely surprise, along with the coffee machine, all the beautiful facilities, the list goes on and on. Just when you think you've seen everything, you discover another generous addition to make your stay even more enjoyable. Only a short walk to Darby Street where we ate amazing and reasonably priced food (thanks Jacqui for your recommendations). The attention to detail far exceeds anywhere we've stayed previously and we will be recommending this beautiful cottage to everyone. Many thanks to Jacqui for all your help with our queries leading up to our little holiday (would have loved to stay longer).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Stay - It's All In The Details My husband and I decided to go explore Newcastle. Cooks Hill Petite Chalet is a very unique and wonderful combination of house rental/upscale hotel. This urban cottage was very clean, well designed and the attention to detail is evident in all that's provided. The bed linens and bath towels (one of my pet peeves with house rentals) were beautiful five star hotel quality and there are many other inclusions you would find in a nice hotel room. The location is very good..walking distance to the CBD, the foreshore and to the shops/restaurants of Darby Street. The beach is a little further but definitely walkable. Communication with the renting agent was very good...quick response time. We would not hesitate to recommend Cooks Hill Petite Chalet to our friends and would choose it again. Thank you Jacqui for everything!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality accomodation in great location We had a wonderful 10 days at Petite Chalet - we found the home to be beautifully appointed in a fantastic location minutes walk from Darby Street cafes and restaurants. The home may look small from the road but it is really well designed and we had plenty of room for six adults, the fit out of home is very clever and everything we needed for our stay had been thought of, off road parking for two vehicles at rear was vey handy as home is so well located we didn't use cars that much. Jacqui was excellent to deal with, nothing was to much trouble and she made the whole booking process, payment and stay very easy. I would highly recommend Petite Chalet and we look forward to staying here or at Jacqui's other accommodation options when next in Newcastle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Gorgeous! Absolutely loved staying in Petite Chalet! Such a beautiful little cottage in a beautiful part of Newcastle. Wonderful restaurants and cafes all within walking distance, and even though you are in the heart of Newcastle the area is extremely quiet. The Chalet is equipped with everything you could possibly want and more. And Jacqui is so lovely and easy to deal with, every question or request was answered immediately. We will definitely be staying again when we visit Newcastle next. Thanks so much

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best that Newcastle has to offer I lack the superlatives to describe my experience with Jacqui and her Petite Chalet. Everything was smooth, easy, and a pleasure. Jacqui responded promptly to my booking request and made me and my family feel very welcome. She offered us a late checkout (there were no guests checking in on the day we checked out) and a list of shops and amenities in the area (my 12-year-old was adamant about trying a smoothie from the Three Monkeys). I'm very grateful for both, not only for the ease but also because I hadn't stopped in Newcastle in more than 20 years and my local knowledge needed refreshing. Jacqui's instructions were clear and precise, and my family and I had no trouble following them. We found the house and let ourselves in with no hassle. Inside was bigger than the photos led us to believe. I was expecting it to be a little cramped - it wasn't. The bedrooms, living room, deck, kitchen, bathrooms, laundry and garage were all a good size. The decor is beautiful and elegant, and the place is beautifully clean and full of light. The furnishings are luxurious. Each bed has a range of covers to suit all temperatures, and each one had a gift bag of bath goodies when we arrived. The air conditioning was a delight, especially since we arrived in a heat wave! Since each member of my family cooks, we made regular use of the excellently-appointed kitchen. I particularly enjoyed serving breakfast at the breakfast bar - with breakfast out on the deck a close second. Newcastle has become more tourist-oriented in the 20-odd years since I lived there. That's no bad thing if you're visiting. The number of great-looking restaurants on nearby Darby Street has increased (those Three Monkeys smoothies tasted even better than they sounded), and the place has more of a Newtown vibe than ever. Laman Street is still quiet, with the soft, occasional punctuation of the town hall clock and the horns of visiting ships. Walking across Civic Park to the foreshore on New Years Eve was delightful - and the Canberra-quality Newcastle Museum was a welcome surprise! The foreshore, which I remember from 20 years ago as mostly industrial, now reminds me of Walsh Bay. You need to see it to appreciate how far Newcastle has come. The beaches, of course, were blissful. I taught my 12-year-old to bodysurf at Bar Beach, on this visit; and before we left, we enjoyed a soothing bob in the glorious Merewether Ocean Baths. We came to Newcastle because I miss the beaches, and we left promising ourselves to return. I can't rate my experience highly enough. I urge you to experience Jacqui's Petite Chalet, and the best that Newcastle has to offer, for yourself. Thank you, Jacqui :)
