This eclectic cottage has been lovingly renovated to provide a comfortable 'home away from home' experience in the heart of Newcastle.
Under five minutes of walking will allow you to explore parks, galleries, cafes & bars. A short bike or car ride will get you to beautiful beaches, Newcastle Harbour, the Museum & iconic Fort Scratchley.
If you are looking for a place to party, this house is NOT for you. Cooks Hill is a beautiful suburb with a nice community feel. Please always be respectful of our neighbours, as this cottage is located within close proximity to people's homes. Please respect the house rules by keeping noise to an acceptable level at all times. We thank you for your consideration.
About the cottage:
We have created a family friendly house with a secure courtyard, & other essentials that you may need during your stay. All four beds have Sealy Posturepedic mattresses, quality pillows, bedding and linen to help you have the cosiest sleep possible. Bath towels, beach towels, quality toiletries and toilet paper are also provided.
The fully equipped kitchen with gas stove cooktop will allow you to cook whatever your tastebuds desire.
We understand what it's like to travel with children. We supply a high chair, cot, linen, waterproof mattress protectors, children's cutlery & crockery, toys, books, safety gate and bed rail if needed.
In the secure courtyard there are two sun-chairs and an outdoor table setting for you relax in the sun, or under the retractable umbrella. Fairy lights can be turned on in the evening for an ambient atmosphere.
Free wireless internet is available throughout the property. You can also connect wirelessly via bluetooth to the 'Harman Kardon Onyx 2' quality speaker. Live television and Netflix can be watched on the large Smart TV in the living room.
For rainy days, umbrellas are provided. Also, an array of books, boardgames, playing cards and magazines are available for your enjoyment.
We live close to the property and are available by phone 24 hours a day should any issues arise. Entry to the cottage is via the front door which has a keypad for your unique code. This code will be emailed to you before your arrival date. We are happy to allow for an earlier check in if no other guests are departing on the same day. Just let us know how we can help you.

Even in Winter, the courtyard and sunroom are filled with warm morning sunshine. Why not relax on the sun chairs with a cuppa & book. For great coffee, all you have to do is walk across the road to Welsh Blacks cafe. Darby street is a short stroll, and there you'll find an array of amazing cafes, restaurants, bars, and boutique clothing & homewares.
Newcastle has stunning beaches, rock pools and coastal walks. A must do is the Anzac Walk which has spectacular views, especially at sunset. During whale season you can see whales as close as 50 metres away as they migrate off the coastline. Take a picnic to Shepherd's Hill Lookout by King Edward Park, or walk Nobbys Headland and you may even see dolphins and seals too. Go for a swim in the Bogie Hole, or the other scenic ocean baths. And be sure to head to Merewether beach for the annual Surfest competition if you're in town.
If you're staying with children, there are excellent playgrounds within walking distance from the cottage. Centennial Park is only 600 metres away, and this playground is located next to Lowlands Bowling Club. Think barefoot bowls and dinner while the kids get to play Nesca Park playground is under 800 metres away. Grab a coffee from Haywire On Darby beforehand - they open early and have the happiest service.
If you want to use the Ziegler & Brown gas BBQ in the courtyard, go to Darby Street Butcher for quality meats. Try their marinaded scotch fillet - it is amazing There is an ALDI supermarket 200 meters away from the cottage. A further 800 meters will get you to Marketown, with both Woolworths & Coles supermarkets, BigW, Officework, Dick Smith Electrical, and other cafes & specialty shops.
Getting here and around:
Newcastle Airport, Williamtown, is a 25 minute drive from Cooks Hill Cabin. There are several different rental car companies located within the terminal. For bus transfers, please contact Port Stephens Coaches for timetable information. Alternatively, TAXI and Uber drivers are usually available.
The closest train station is Hamilton Station. It is 2.6km, and a 6 minute TAXI/Uber ride from the cottage. Newcastle buses are also available to and from Hamilton Station. Please refer to Service NSW timetables for updated information.
Cooks Hill Cabin is within walking distance to so many wonderful things that Newcastle has to offer. Push bikes can be hired at a cost from the 'Swipenride' bike dock on Newcastle Harbour. Newcastle Transport operate buses through a Fare Free Bus Zone in the city centre between 07:30am and 6pm, seven days a week.
